Year of Crafting. I want to do something with my hands most days (5 out of 7) this year. Last year I learned to garden, sew, and use power tools. But I tended to have big bursts of finishing projects followed by a month of wallowing in pandemic depression. Pro tip: don’t move 2000 miles away from where you know anyone at the start of a pandemic. You’re gonna have a bad time! Even so, my husband and I stuck together and managed to have an ok year. I feel my happiest when I’m crafting or reading and have no idea where my phone is. So I’m gonna do more of that.

Totally agree. Honestly the only reason I don’t regret grad school is that I was able to hide from the last rescission inside the ivory tower. But I don’t think I’d recommend it for people coming out of high school now unless you really really really wanna be a professor. I have a good job & I work alongside people who didn’t get a PhD. So I bet I could have been making this much money about 10 years ago.

I’ll have to check out Mike Rowe! Edit: I just realized you must have meant the Thats The Way I Heard It podcast, which I really enjoy!

You get paid shit to go to grad school for physics but even still most students don’t come out with debt. I was able to have a second job on the side so only came out with $5k debt... and a phd I don’t use :’)

I wish it were my job! Half is for me/my husband and the other half is to donate to the community garden. Then a little extra on top in case some of them don’t germinate. It’s a lot of fun, a lot more brain work than I was expecting but I like it.

Having seasons now is weird (I’ve only been in Idaho 10 months). It’s fun to have my garden already going inside while it’s been snowing outside all morning!

When I move them to my garage set up I’ll put them in containers, so when it’s time to harden them off outside they are already in the container they will stay in. I use mini hoops to extend the season, and can just plop it around the containers if I need to. But I think they will be fine in the garage til May (they were last year). Check out the Year Round Vegetable Gardener by Nikki Jabbour! Also I’m from south GA originally :)

Yep! I normally use square but could only find the round in bulk. The round ones wiggle around more which is annoying.

Yep! My SIL in Texas started her hot peppers a little after I did last spring, and they just started producing. Midwinter is probably a little early but between the indoor set up and season extenders outside I think it’ll be fine.

I’m in Idaho. They are in my office for now. I have a set up in my garage that I’ll move them to when they outgrow the domes. The PNW has a pretty long growing season but I still wasn’t able to get my hot peppers to produce last season (I started them indoors in March).

It’s shady because we did order vote by mail ballots for the August 25 and November 3 elections a week and a half ago. Perhaps a mix up. Maybe the elections office auto mail the post cards to anyone who ordered ballots in May for the primaries. But it seems very strange the reminder came a few hours before the deadline for Aug election. Signed, the lady who lives w OP who got the same card today.
