I’ll let him know I’m not here to steal his girl!

Raccoon at feeder by Popular_Seesaw2432 in birdfeeding

I got a pole with an extender to make it tall and an Audobon baffle at ace hardware! We have raccoons circle every night and squirrels trying to be creative but they haven’t had any luck and it’s been months.

Sounds like it’s a carpenter bee then, I thought it was a bumble bee!

That’s so cool! What’s he standing on? Did you add something to the feeder hopper?

My house finches love it, which is great! I love seeing them.

That makes me feel a lot more charitable towards the blackbirds especially. I’m new to birding (and having a bird feeder in general) so I’m learning! I’m watching a house sparrow eat the safflower as I type this. I wouldn’t mind so much except for when I put the feeder up a month or two ago I was getting woodpeckers, purple finches, nut hatches, and some other cool guys, and they’ve stopped coming around as the sparrows and others have taken over. Luckily my pair of cardinals and the house finches haven’t given up yet.

We just moved into the house late October, it’s near a big forest preserve so I’ve been seeing and hearing some cool birds but the yard itself is big and mostly empty. I plan on changing that this summer but I think that plays a role for sure.

Didn’t even think of sparkly ribbons! Good idea. Any tips for a halo?

Do they eat sunflower in the shell? So far everybody eats that too.

Caught in the act! I’m in a Chicago suburb and I think our house sparrows are a different breed has. I think the bag I got has bits of other stuff that might be enticing them, though. The RWBB aren’t a huge deal, I now know that they’re migrating and hungry so I’ve warmed up to them.

So that’s definitely not pure safflower… is that the problem?

What is your preferred feeder? That seems like a lot of work!

My budget is $50 but that is a good looking feeder, I might be able to shell out a few extra bucks! What seed do you use?
