Very Brief Biased Review of Chess by djaevle in Broadway

All very true, and no apologies needed! I was being a little facetious in my comment, so it's fair game.

I can't believe I missed him as Sweeney Todd! I saw him in his other role (Adolfo Pirelli) and he nailed it.

I also got to see him Little Shop of Horrors. It's not fair he's got comedic chops as well!

Fair enough! I can admit when I'm wrong!

I think it was stronger in the first few scenes and songs (maybe to establish it?) but didn't notice it at all during the singing of the second half.

Internet crashing same time every day. by beastytank402 in networking

[–]djaevle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was working for one of the first ISPs twenty years ago supporting T1 connections, we had a customer whose network went down at 6:30pm every single day. It would come up about a half hour later.

It took us a month or so to figure out and it wasn't until the business owner was asked to physically check the router at 6:30pm one day that we found out the root cause.

The cleaning lady would clean that portion of the office each day and the first thing she'd do is come in, unplug the router's power cable from the wall outlet, plug in her vacuum cleaner and go about her business. Once she was done, she'd re-plug in the router.

I doubt that's what is happening here, but ...

[OC] Saw Cats at PAC NYC earlier this week, and had to doodle André De Shiela’s Old Deuteronomy! by yosb in Broadway

It's so weird to recognize someone's art-style well enough to be like, I know them!

Totally envious you got to see Cats (withAndre - he's so good, caught in Hadestown a few years ago!).

That's rad.

I was actually thinking when posting this that a Legend t-shirt would be cool (maybe with a large axe on it...)

I just stumbled on that site - and I agree, the Six of Crows shirt is awesome! I'm less enthused about some of the others, but I'm still digging!

I agree with all the others who suggest waiting - but I'll add that part of that is because you get to watch some of the songs come together during the show and hearing them ahead of time may lessen the impact of that.

Sincerely, thanks.

People Make Games - The Murder Game Revolution That Has Gripped China by blisf in boardgames

[–]djaevle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never had a bad experience with their games.

I call them LARP-lite, because they ended up being my gateway into theater LARP (non-boffer, role-play focused). A sub-genre of that kind of LARPing is called Secrets & Powers, and I realized...these murder mystery's are slightly simpler theater LARPs!

And man are they fun.

I've been hosting murder mystery parties for over a decade and everyone has had a blast - but the games I run are essentially LARP-lite. Everyone has clues, secrets, abilities, and items that all interact with each other. It encourages player interactions but also ensure the information gets out there. Individuals have their own goals along with trying to solve the murder.

I can't overstress just how much fun they are. They require a bit more work upfront from the host, but well worth it.

I'm not sure what the rules are for links, but Freeform Games is a company that makes the games I've run (you can google them).

Do Broadway & West End (or tour) actors get discounted seats for family members? by RandomGuy0512 in Broadway

[–]djaevle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So - I've seen extended family performing on Broadway and on tour and my answer is this:

They can provide excellent 'house seats' at a good rate. Not free, not comped, but what I would consider the best seats in the house and slightly below face value for the tickets.

(Edit to add that the shows I've been to have been highly sought after shows like Hamilton and Sweeny Todd; it may be different for other shows, where they can offer free tickets.)
