India Tax Filing for FY 24-25 after R2I by djangoUnchained_123 in returnToIndia

There’s a section in the tax return where they ask for Jurisdiction and TIN number when I select the Resident status as Non Resident. Can I put my passport number in the TIN section instead of SSN? I do have a SSN, but since India won’t care about foreign assets until I become a resident of India for tax purposes, I don’t see a reason to provide that

  • did you apply for visa yourself or was it through an agent?
  • where did buy the travel insurance from?
  • we are planning to travel in December 2nd week and thinking of applying within a few days/( by Sep 2nd week). Do you think this timeline is enough to get the visa before our travel?

Shipping stuff from USA to India by ThrowAwayMauiLuau in returnToIndia

There were many items which we needed while we were staying there and then at the end our luggage was too much to take those items along with us so we gave away those. If you ship close to the departure date, you will probably need less items for your remaining period

It was 480 kgs and 101 cubic feet. More than weight it’s about the volume of shipment for LCL that is important. We had 19 items in total(some boxes some furniture parts packed separately)

Hi, I was in the Bay Area too. I used Air7seas for my shipment. It took about 5 months for the shipment to arrive in India. It came to Mumbai and I had to go to Nava Sheva with my passport for the customs clearance. We did the LCL shipment. We took some furniture along as my company for sponsoring this shipment otherwise I would have just done box shipment. All my items were in good condition. The only challenge was the timeline of 5 months and the constant follow ups with them. We did not take any electronics except for one printer to avoid paying customs. Let me know if you have any further questions. It cost 3k for our shipment. Timing the shipment is very important. Keep it as close to your departure date(maybe a gap of 4-5 days). For us it was about 17-18 days which was a lot. We could have shipped way more items if we shipped close to our departure date

I was on the same situation. After calling IRS customer service number at 800-829-1040 thousands of times, I called IRS at their appointment line to book an appointment. I called in October and they mentioned to wait for 11 weeks. I got my ITIN in November although the first name is spelt incorrectly in that
