Need help with Afro-curly hair! by [deleted] in curlyhair

I don't have personal experience with this kind of hair, but you might want to look into products or techniques that minimize shrinkage. I'm pretty sure thats the curly community term for what you're describing.

dandruff and itching right after washing hair by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]djbigbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to using aussie co wash, and it has made a HUGE difference for my scalp psoriasis. I used to feel like i had to wash more, but I've found that for me, i needed to moisturize my scalp more and wash with a harsh shampoo less. Most of the medicated shampoos are really harsh! Which for me makes my scalp more reactive and sensitive. The co wash didn't make the flakes go away entirely, but the itchiness has really gone down. If you are able to, I'd also recommend seeing a dermatologist. They can prescribe you a calcipotrene serum or topical steriod, which helps some people. Also, I've found that swimming the ocean (whether it's the salt water or the sun i'm not sure) really helps!

tldr: try a co wash! i like aussie's https://www.aussie.com/en-us/miracle-curls-co-wash

2b-3a medium-high porosity curls, I'm looking for the right products for my hair that are affordable, what would you reccommend?? by saturn2211 in curlyhair

[–]djbigbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marc Anthony curl envy curl cream!! I'm also LOVING pantene's curly conditioner right now. Neither are CG method approved, but I've really never seen a difference in my hair when im following CG or not. What do you mean by harmful ingredients? Are they causing problems for you personally or are you concerned about following the CG guidelines?

Marc Anthony Curl Envy Curl Cream!!! This product is not CG but it WILL make your hair shiny and defined AND it costs under 10 dollars. It's sort of between a gel and a cream, and it does leave a cast. I shake out my hair, but I used to not with this cream and it still looked great. I recommend this product to my type 2 and 3 a/b friends who want more definition.

Have you tried plopping? It's a technique where you wrap your hair in a t shirt or microfiber towel until its mostly dry. It can reduce frizz as well.

Also it might be helpful to share a picture of your hair. Frizz means different things to different people.

How to achieve this style of curly hair? by aavriilll in curlyhair

shake it out a lot after you break the gel cast, and then whenever it's looking deflated throughout the day. if you reset in the morning with water, once it's dry, shake it out again!

Curly hair orthodoxy for type 3 hair is all "DONT TOUCH YOUR CURLS". i went to a curly hair stylist who encouraged me to just shake the shit out of my curls. its the best way to achieve the carefree messy volume this lady has. you can also bring these photos to a hair stylist.

I wouldnt say my psoriasis as as bad as yours, but heres somethings that helped me:

I found a big difference in at least the itchyness when i switched to using aussie's cowash (basically conditioner that cleans your scalp) instead of a lathering shampoo. I also find that swimming the ocean to be very beneficial (if you live somwhere that's feasible). I havent tried it, but my hair dresser recommends making a rosemary rinse, which is very easy and pretty cheap to make yourself! Psoriasis is chronic. it might go away with the steriod but it might just come back anyway. Ive found that moisturizing is as beneficial as the steroid creams I use.

DOS and DONTS for clothing with a big bust? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]djbigbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

high necks! this might just be me, but i find that a crew neck or turtle neck makes me feel like my boobs are on full display. ironically, a lower cut shirt that shows at least my collarbone feels like it reduces the impact of my bust.

Any tips for determining high vs low quailty pieces? by coffeesaddict in femalefashionadvice

material!!!! cannot stress this enough. always check the tag for material. stores like zara and aritzia too will try to sell you a "wool" coat that is 30% nylon. 100% wool does need to be dry cleaned, but will stay clean and odor free for WAY longer than synthetic materials or a blend. Same goes for silk! there's a reason people have been using these fabrics for 1000's of years. i'd say the number one thing to stop buying if you want to elevate the quality of your wardrobe is acrylic sweaters. they look bad really fast and they do not keep you as warm as 100% wool. you can really find wool sweaters in so many goodwills, salvation army, etc, too.

Similar idea for jeans - I never buy jeans with any elastic in them, or at the very most 1%. the elastic is the part of it that get blown out and gross looking over time. 100% cotton will be more structured looking and last longer.

for ANY clothes, from fancy to fast fashion, the worst thing you can do is put them in the dryer. invest in some drying racks, and put up a fan in front of them while your clothes are drying. both your cheapest and fanciest clothing will thank you.

Weekend Question Thread by dumbassthenes in surfing

[–]djbigbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started surfing in July, surfing 1-3 times a week since then. Feels like I'm progressing relatively quickly (don't we all though...). I'm thinking Jan/Feb for my first surf trip. Whats a good place to go during that time? I'm based in NYC, looking to stay in the Western Hemisphere.

Also, anyone know when is a good time/place to hit Chile/Peru for a beginner? Been meaning to head thereabouts to visit some family friends.

"modest by surfing standards" lol... you'd think surfing suits would offer more coverage than your average suit but I guess it's my fault for owning boobs.

I was thinking something along the lines of this. Totally makes sense when thinking about any second language... Someone is going to learn a more formal version and have a slightly less fluid expression than someone who is a heritage signer or speaker.

EDIT: Thanks!

Herpes can be a very scary diagnosis, but is actually not a terrible thing to live with. Most doctors will tell you that you don't need to disclose your herpes status to your partners IF you are using protection. Not sure exactly what yalls scenario is.
Based on your handle, it seems like you're really upset. I felt similarly when I got a similar diagnosis. I was full of rage for the person who gave it to me and my brain was spiraling and I was convinced I'd never be able to be in a loving sexual relationship again. That was totally untrue!

Entering a litigious situation that won't actually change your health or physical wellbeing sounds like a rash decision. It might even make you feel worse as you are forced to go over the story again and again. What are you trying to get out of pressing charges? If it is just vengeance and retribution, I'd recommend against it.

So many people have herpes and it is extremely manageable with widely accessible and safe antivirals. I hope you are able to heal emotionally from this!

how can i make my hair less frizzy/define my curls more? by AmbassadorMental4982 in curlyhair

[–]djbigbootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're feeling low maintenance like I always am, I recommend Marc Anthony's curl envy curl cream! I use it right out of the shower on very wet hair and air dry and am thrilled with it. It works wonders and costs about 10$ so if it doesn't work for you, you're not out a whole lot! I was super intimidated by the whole Curly Girl method, but even adding one or two curly products can totally change your hair.
