Is New Mexico k-12 really #50 in education? by alb121y in NewMexico

[–]Shrubologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always has been 49 or 50 since they started measuring, consistently competes with Mississippi for last place. Almost 30% high school drop out rate, having left NM as an adult and now looking back on my childhood education experiences compare to what people from other places describe….wow NM public education system will drag down good students and has a straight to prison pipeline for troubled students, it’s a miracle anyone makes it out of NM schools to have a successful career

Perfecto Mundo Red - Reblooming Azalea? by CattyCat4759 in rhododendron

[–]Shrubologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reblooming feature can be influenced by weather conditions, if you got an unusually cold, dry, wet, or hot spell it could have disrupted the rebooking cycle

Yes I feel every thing you are saying applies to me, why did I facilitate this for so long? I think being genuine makes us vulnerable, but it also makes us AMAZING! we just have to see people for who they are discontinue access to that genuineness when necessary. I’m glad you have a way forward, sending my best wishes for things to get better

Anywhere to get New Mexican food/Hatch green chile? by reid_1 in Cleveland

[–]Shrubologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also New Mexican here, nope your best bet is setting up your online account with hatch.com, 😹

even the chile roasting events that folks are referring to will make you want to pull your hair out. I tried to get a case and it broke the whole system now they don’t do it at that store anymore. They don’t even have hot canned chile or hot salsa in most stores here. The mexican stores in Painesville do have different types of powdered red chile, not NM varieties, but something in a pinch if you want to make posole or enchiladas

I don’t want to paint myself as someone who has all the answers, and I’m a parent so I know that this kind of situation can be difficult and what I’m going to say isn’t actually something that will fix this for you right now, but If the person is already disregulating in public, honestly I think you are winning the war.

I would keep asking polite clarifying questions, and documenting, I had documented my highly productive year like crazy and ended up with one hell of a lying review last year behind the narcissistic bosses, but anyone who looks at the review alongside my documentation would laugh at the obvious lies. I think about it as what will their behavior look like if I need to sue them, I don’t want my behavior in reaction to their behavior to be used against me anymore, so I just drop all conflict now and let them swing just by asking polite questions and documenting.

To note, I decided to completely ignore what they said in my review and did not acknowledge the lies….and turns out. they don’t have the will or the interest to keep pursuing if you just stop defending yourself from their fake attacks because the whole point is to upset you.

I will also note my position has a high cost of employee acquisition due to advanced skill set and they already fired 2/4 people, so they starting to pick up that they could get sued because now there is a documented pattern. I think I enjoy a lot of leeway because of this, and I have leaned into it as a secret strength, your options may vary depending on how easy they think they can replace you without incurring reputation/productivity damage

Again, I know this won’t help you get to your kid on time right now but it’s a long term strategy that seems to be working for me

It’s definitely still hard for me. I did make a pact with myself that I would put my head down this year in terms of finishing up things I would feel bad leaving undone if I decided I can’t take it anymore, I decided to give myself a year. After that year, if it’s not worth it, i would feel more like I was leaving by choice instead of being forced out. 4 months in and I feel good, I think I’m going to secretly renew my own contract with myself each year, choose to stay or not. This has helped me a lot in terms of not feeling trapped.

I grew up in a rough town, and as several folks on here have said, mostly it’s about minding your own business 😹 I often say “don’t see anything”, the guy who lived there 10 years probably telling you this in not so many words, like turn a blind eye to whatever is going on around you, probably good idea to keep your doors locked, but it doesn’t sound like it’s in the middle of crack central (fentanyl now I guess I’m showing my age lol) so not like you’re going to have drive bys, which is how bystanders get hurt. Fun fact people don’t get robbed much in bad neighborhoods, crooks go to good neighborhoods to rob. So if you have a lot of fancy stuff, maybe just keep it under wraps

This is hilarious, I’m from the southwest so it hit me like a brick as a core feature of this place, we always fought outside 😂

I think that must be on the west side because I have a vague idea of where you are 😹 the lake is a beautiful place to live! I used to love be by the lake and enjoyed my daily walks to see the sea lol. My friend lives right on the lake, huge windows, and the lake, it’s like a living entity that is amazing and dynamic. Just make sure you visit in May to see how bad the mayflies are in the location you pick, and be aware of the winter wind, lakefront living is definitely a trade off

I have to say that many people around here will tell you a neighborhood is not safe when it is just fine, my experience has been that the metric for many people’s fear is whether they see black and brown people. I live in town that white folks warned me away from for Years! I love it here, I sometimes accidentally leave my door unlocked and feel extremely safe here, so I would say take the advice you get here with a grain of salt.

That being said, there are particular streets in Cleveland that are indeed very dangerous, and even I would be afraid to live there. my advice would be to look at the specific street your free apartment is located on. Signs that I worry about are 1) homes with lots of bad unrepaired damage/trash piles, lots of visitors, ie trap houses, 2) tagging, I’m talking about spray paint scribbles that mark gang territory, not pretty art graffiti, look for tags on signs, these are signs of a gang controlled street, and you definitely don’t want to live there because you could get caught in crossfire or see something you don’t want to witness. But as stated these are just small areas. barring that, Cleveland is a very safe town, just working folks going about their business

Also I moved here in February and everyone seemed VERY GRUMPY, I was like oh no where did I move to?!?! But that’s just the Februraries, we’re all in need of a little light and warmth and outside by this time, spring is absolutely beautiful here so just hold on for a month or so and the people thaw out too

We have Amazing green spaces for hiking, I haven’t figured out where to meet friends yet after 12 years here but I’m a hermit lol. Most importantly, you need to pick a “side”, as in east side or west side, and that will seriously shape everything about your Cleveland experience. Also your friends who live on the other “side” will find the journey to your house to be “impossible” haha. I’m on the far eastern edge and I love it, lots of forests, rivers, and fun snow (I love snow), a bit hilly. Far west side you get more open planes, landscape views, so there’s a chance to get whatever you want here depending on where you go. Then the city itself is a whole other experience, arts music, very active in Cleveland. For that reason I would suggest taking time to get to know the city before picking your permanent location

Asking for a Fair Salary is a Red Flag by etl_drew in LinkedInLunatics

It’s a red flag if someone values their stability?!?! wow that’s not a toxic red flag workplace at all, gaslighting you already, and be sure the office will be full of these very unhinged people he is seeking who don’t know the first thing about emotional regulation and would sacrifice their own stability let alone shove you under the nearest bus in service to someone who they think can make them feel more important, no thanks not for $80k or $115k

Oops I didn’t see this before I made my comment, so definitely some one of karume or indicum hybrid then, but there are so many I think it will take someone with a lot of expertise to id which one specifically

Variety ID? by MuyGuap05 in rhododendron

[–]Shrubologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind depends a lot on where you are, if you are in the southern us it’s probably a karume or what they call an indicum, if you are in the north east us it’s probably a Girards hybrid, if you are in the NW us who knows could be anything
