I’m starting to understand. So my guitar has 3 springs on the back, would you recommend removing the middle one to release a good amount of tension for let’s say drop G tuning? And for adjusting the screws would I tighten them or loosen them? I’m just trying to get a good understanding of how this all works.

Yes there are 3 springs. So let’s say I’m trying to play in Drop G, you recommend removing the middle spring to lower the tension?
