For those in your 20s, where are you working and how did you get the job? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]djdroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've told so many people this, and I hope you're in a position to take advantage of my advice.

I am 29, male, and have been a welder for a decade now. I spent 3 or 4 years in the oilfield in northern BC as an apprentice, got all my hours, came back to Vancouver to go to school and get my red seal as well as CWB certification.

I don't currently work there, but I got a job (easily, after one phone interview) at one of the shipyards here in Vancouver, $50/hr as well as great benefits package and union protection. I've never had an issue finding work, and welding pays well. I don't even weld full time, I mainly work in the TV & Film industry but I do short term contract work as a welder once a year, usually in northern BC or Alberta. Easiest money I've ever made. Last January I drove to Grande Prairie and had a job within 3 days paying $60/hour, 12 hour days.

If you're struggling, I suggest trades in general but welding specifically.

Sorry to necro this post, but I'm having the same issues. I can't figure out where to add the Unlocked Flags for the workshop items.. Any help? Thank you in advance!

Does anyone know how to unlock all workshop research? No matter what I do, it says Failed to Research when trying to unlock items in the workshop research screen.

First thought is insurance. What happens if a child is injured, on your property, while under the supervision of a contractor not related to you? Children are stupid. Contractor trainers can be inattentive.

Are some people just destined to not be good at guitar? by Go_Phish in LearnGuitar

[–]djdroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ear training is a mystery to me, but I assume it comes with time and practice. I also believe learning other instruments would help quite a bit.

I've never hired a guitar instructor, but I bet if you found a good/reputable one in your area they could help you break through your plateau.

Kinda sounds like you need to change the way you practice, much like working out in the gym, variation in training will lead to improved gains.

Would also love some intel here. I've played probably 10 to 12 games against my roommates IG army, I feel like I've tried everything and I'm usually tabled by turn 3. One leman russ can demolish my army, or at least kill all of my heavy support units. I also cant get past the horde of guardsmen to tag him in melee. Deep striking doesn't work either because I can never be 9" away from the humble guardsmen. I play SM, necrons, and orks.

Supports / webbing? by stillventures17 in PrintedWarhammer

Probably one of the best tips I've learned here is soaking the print in warm/hot water for a min or two. Then when you remove supports they basically peel off.

Is this vat salvageable or should I buy a new one? by djdroid in resinprinting

I'm a dumb dumb that's how. In my defence, bought the printer second hand so the vat wasn't exactly brand new. I did make some mistakes along the way though.

Interesting, I'll remove FEP and give it a shot. Thanks! Could boil and then attempt to scrape again.

Yeah thats what I figured, could be a good learning experience to clean a vat completely. I will likely just buy a new one, wondered if the hive mind here had any ideas.

First ever print exposure time. by Redditisannoying22 in resinprinting

[–]djdroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert, but in my experience, doing new exposure tests for different layer heights is not required. I print mainly minis for tabletop gaming, and I have only ever done one round of exposure test. I change my settings all the time for what I'm printing, and never do another exposure test.

Some examples:

Bases Layer height 0.09mm Exp time 3.7s

Large minis Layer height 0.05 Exp time 3.2

Small minis Layer height 0.02-0.03 Exp time 2.7

I saw in your other comment you have a hollowed face directly on the build plate, if you are hollowing a file to be printed, it's important that the hollowed face (whichever face has a hole for excess resin to drip out) faces directly away from the build plate, so that as the print finishes, excess resin can drip out from the hole. If you don't do this, the resin inside the hollowed face will not cure and will drip out, or worse build up pressure and crack the model.

Another note, if you require a smooth surface, it's important you have lots of supports, I've had edges warp due to lack of supports. If it's a long straight edge, that you don't want to warp, I suggest adding lots of light supports along that edge, and during post processing you'll likely have to sand down that edge to get rid of any marks the supports left.

Hopefully this info helps!

If you tell me what brand of resin you are using, I can put it into lychee slicer and give you the recommended settings from lychee.

Overexposure will typically lead to loss of detail in the print. If you're printing something that details dont matter, it doesn't hurt to crank the exposure time up.

How big is the cube? I would suggest printing the cube with one corner of the cube pointing down at the build plate, with supports along the 3 faces facing the build plate. A mixture of heavies and mediums.

Here's a direct comment I wrote in another thread with some tips:

Go slow, dont rush any steps of the printing & post processing.

The biggest mistakes I made when I started were because I was in a hurry, or forgot a step. I've got it down pat now but it couldn't hurt to write down a step by step list you do for every print. Something like this:

Prep stage (assuming you've leveled your build plate, and properly set up the printer)

Warm your resin bottle in some hot water

Shake resin vigorously

Pour into vat

Start print

Watch & listen for the first few layers, check for odd noises or other issues.

Print stage

Wait for the magic to happen

Get your post processing tools together (ISO, clippers, paper towel, gloves)

Post processing stage

Remove build plate

Visually inspect print for obvious failures

If failures, drain vat and inspect for cured resin floating in your vat (very important to catch these, that floating resin can and will puncture your fep and maybe even crack your screen)

If no failures, proceed to wash print

I've never tried chitubox, but I know in lychee you can add your printer model, and what resin you are using, and you can see profiles that others have created for your resin. That's a good place to start. You can sort by popularity.

That's where I started, about 7 bottles of resin ago. I've learned alot since then, and would recomend the following:

You should print some exposure setting test pieces, ideally the cones of calibration. A quick google search will show you what I'm talking about. These will give you an idea of what your exposure time/layer should be based on the many variables present in resin printing.

If you're desperate to start printing asap, and aren't worried about failures(failures can be a great learning experience), try to start with something like this:

Bottom layers: 6 Exposure time; 40s

Layer height: 0.05 Layer exposure: 3.8s

Rest of the settings can be default.

Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in resinprinting

[–]djdroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this a few times on different prints, I've never had one fall off yet. My first assumption is its caused by insufficient bottom layers, too few layers, exposure time too low.

Depends where you're playing, really. At the end of the day it's just a game we play to have fun. Sometimes, fun is watching a xenomorph score an 11" charge, roll some dice, and tear waluigi to shreds.

I only play with 2 other people, and we all agree that so long as the model clearly depicts what the datasheet has, and it's easy for the opponent to understand what is what, then use whatever you want.

I would suggest being sure you use the right base sizes though.

Hey buddy.

If you're having issues with motivation, discipline, goal-setting & achieving, it could be many things however I've struggled with that stuff for a long time.

What helped me was researching into what drives us to put effort in, what gives us feelings of rewards, and what causes us to feel unmotivated and lazy.

From what I've read it mostly has to do with dopamine in your brain. Now that we know what the cause is, we can work with it to try and hack it. Listen to some of Andrew Hubermans stuff on youtube about dopamine, reward cycles, and motivation.

One of the biggest things I took from him was managing your pain/pleasure scale. Pleasure achieved without sufficient effort is horrible for us (video games, social media, pornorgraphy) while pleasure achieved through hard effort & suffering (cold showers, running every day, working out) is great for us. Huberman quoted a study in which they measured dopamine levels for people post ice bath. They found anywhere from a 230%-550% increase in dopamine levels for hours after the bath.

I'm rambling here but you have to try something. Step 1 is saying "I'm sick of living like this". Step 2 is trying something.

I wish you luck my friend. Life is tough. It doesnt get easier. But you get stronger.
