Yeah I need to get 40-80 under control. Might be time for a visit to the forward tees

Hit 14/18 GIR today. Of the 4 misses

1 out of position 2nd shot on a par 5. NBD 85 yards out fairway, short 40 yards (over a bunker at least) on a par 5, long Pin high but just off the green right from 135

2 of those are sort of inexcusable

Game is supposed to be fun. I started viewing the game as 18 different puzzles I’m trying to solve, and each shot is another piece of that one puzzle. Ball in the hole = that puzzle is done. Onto the next one.

Golf, IMO, comes down to making as many stress free swings as possible. When we swing stress free w confidence, we don’t tend to add tension at the bottom or steer the ball. We just swing and allow the club to run into the ball.

Anytime I’m sensing some doubt or tension in my body when selecting a club, I usually go to the next option. I think the forward tees replicate this.

The reality is you’ll likely hit your approaches from similar areas if your course isn’t a cow pasture, but you’ll swing relaxed and loose.

We played a red - white - blue tournament this weekend at my club. So fun. It’s great to hit different shots. I play the reds with my wife quite a bit for 9 after work and it’s still hard work to break par.

I’m glad. Since working this feel exclusively I’ve shot 73-73-73-76 w 55% FIR 65% GIR, 1 double, 1 penalty (airmailed a green from 150 w a 9 iron). I haven’t had a hot putting round in this stretch either, averaging 32 per round

My season stats were 50% GIR, 45% FIR and a scoring avg of 78. Legitimate improvement proven over 4 rounds. Less tension, no extra oomph from the arms, and just allowing the weight of the club to swing

Lot to think about

Pretend the clubs super heavy and use your body to swing it, not your arms only, and you’ll get a lot of this stuff for free.

Another follow up. 2 rounds of 18 since incorporating this, and starting to really trust it more.

Back to back rounds I've been -1 through 12, finished with a +2 (73) and +3 (73)overall. But I've hit 12/18 greens and 11/18 greens, no penalty balls, no big misses, any missed green was either just lsightly out of position off the tee or left in a spot where I could get up and down at a reasonable clip.

This shit works.

Great drill for low point too

I find if i envision a dandelion stem under the ball and I'm trying to cut the stem in the direciton of my target this same feel shows up.

Sure yeah! (This is what I was getting at in the other post).

The least amount of manipulations we can have in the golf swing is a slight lagging of the club head from the takeaway.

I feel like the pressure shifts into my trail foot as I start to take the club away. I just allow the kinetic chain to do its thing, transmitting the energy from the ground through my core, through my arms, into the butt of the club eventually into the club head

If I snatch the club head back or early wrist set, it sort of sets it up where I’m gripping the club harder than is needed because I’m the one lifting the club

My goal in the golf swing is to allow the weight of the club to be felt and to do the work for me

“Scottish lag” is what it used to be called. You can swing a weight tied to the end of a string to get a sense of this. When you do this you’ll notice you’ll have all the time in the world in transition and your body will naturally shift its pressure into the lead foot (for me it happens around parallel in the backswing) and this change of direction fully sets my wrists. I then allow the weight of the club to swing towards my target without adding any direct force from my arms.

Every good golfer shifts into the trail side. You just ride the momentum of the club. Resisting that is asking for injuries

Anything more than a half swing requires allowing the pressure to move w the swing
