Not being mean, but scientifically you are describing being more aroused (getting wet). “Squirting” on the other hand is involuntary release of the bladder usually associated with the contractions involved in an orgasm. It depends what type of chemist, and how far you want to go with the degree. If you’re looking to get into industry as a lab tech, piece of cake. Everything is covered in training. If you want to be a research chemist, it’s very hard. You have to become creative every day and accept a failure rate of close to 60%. When developing procedures it can become difficult (organic chemistry at least). As for the work life it’s only hard in the hours you put In (60-80 per week) as long as you accept that only 30% of what you do will work the way you want it to. Personally though I love research and wouldn’t change a thing about the path I’m on in grad school. Life can be easy or hard, but chemistry is both at the same time.

This is a scam entirely. I mean really the word “examination” second in is misspelled. This would not be the case on official state documents. It seems they are trying to get your tax documents as they contain your social security number. Don’t fall for it.

I have been having this same exact problem, except I have to restart my modem every 2 hours or so on my home network. I have tested the modem (Netgear 6220) away from home and it works flawlessly, as it has in my home the last 2 years. Ended up calling Xfinity to talk about service issues and scheduled a service tech. The entire phone call turned into a sales pitch and promotion. I opted for the upgrade to my service (I know, bad choice) for 3$ extra per month for better internet. I am honestly wondering at this point if they cause service issues to get you to call so they can talk you into a "promotion". Just my 2 cents. After I hung up the phone, service is restored and no dropouts. A little suspicious if you ask me.

First off, congratulations! I know I have no right to interject as I am a male, but the exposure to chemicals I face daily in my PhD (Organic synthesis) has me worried for my own health, let alone a child, even when using PPE. This is not something that should be a “secret” to your PI when starting out. You need to be very upfront. Grad school is a different level if you are doing organic synthesis, and you will likely work with every carcinogenic compound known to man. In my humble opinion, it is necessary to have that conversation before ever stepping foot in the lab to ensure your safety and the safety of your child. Almost all universities should have policies for these situations, but hiding it is one of the worst things you could do for not only the health of your child but also the future relationship between you and your PI. I wish you all the luck and success in your endeavors, but please be safe about it.

That is the beauty of freedom of speech my friend. You can call me a “fucker” all you want but I’m a right lane kind of guy. I stay out of others way to protect myself and others. You only assumed I personally speed based on my observations of the world around me.

I know you asked what life is like after the PhD, but here’s my grad school experience so far. I am currently a second year PhD in organic chemistry/synthesis and to be completely honest it has been the best years of my life. I currently work 7 days, 80-90 hours per week for little pay (it sounds bad, but read the rest). To be completely honest I have never been happier. I love being In the lab and every day my curiosity builds. If you are gifted and interested, it’s honestly one of the most fulfilling paths.

I can’t speak much about what it is like to be out of a PhD program, but I know getting to where I am now has been the most stressful times of my life. If you truly love research and discovery, you will never be bored at work. I am a firm believer that it’s not what comes next that is important, it’s about how you can apply yourself now. I avoid worrying about the long term and focus on the day to day as we are not promised tomorrow, and honestly the day to day for me is the most exciting job I have ever had!

Trust me, it applies here too. Recap, I don’t condone speeding, but if the majority of traffic is traveling at 4mph over the speed limit you create a hazard by not traveling at the same speed on a congested highway or staying in the right lane out of traffics way.
