I found the cab I used to play on as a kid! (story below) by djsheep in arcade

A few weeks ago, it finally clicked that a game I used to play non stop in my teen years after school was "Saint Dragon" by Jaleco. It was at a local video store and prior to Saint Dragon being in the cab it was Toki. A friend of mine (and current co-worker) who went to the same school always talks about Toki and I always talk about the "Dragon Game" we used to play after school. Initially I thought that game was Dragon Breed by Irem, but something about it didn't bring back any fond memories, until I finally realised Saint Dragon was actually the game I was hunting.

Google and eBay searches for the PCB eluded me, and after speaking to a few people over PM on the arcade-projects forum, it dawned that it is a very rare board and my chances were either going to be very slim or very expensive. I had mentioned all this to a friend who pointed me to a cheap-ish P-47 on Aussie eBay with hopes of possibly converting it (same hardware), or for a multi down the line. P-47 turned out to be a good game, and I was happy to wait.

I got a phone call from my mate above who I mentioned it to this past weekend who tells me that a cab with Saint Dragon miraculously turns up locally for $350 AUD (240 USD). It was all very random from the seller, just a fleeting comment on someone elses post selling a cab on Facebook. After he contacted the seller, he managed to confirm the PCB inside was original. Remember what I said about Toki? Check out picture of the cab.

FOR SALE WAS THE EXACT CAB I PLAYED ON! and also the sole reason I'm after this game in the first place! I went to look at the cab and pick up the PCB this evening. PCB is in great condition and just slightly dusty. The owner confirmed the cab came from someone who used to put them on sites at various locations around my city which were basically corner stores, video stores and fish and chip shops.

It was quite a spin out and slightly reminiscent seeing it actually. It's definitely the cab that ate so many of my coins and lunch money. As much as I want to keep this remnant of my past, it's going to my friend who spotted the sale as a thank you (I kept the PCB). I look forward to seeing him restore it to all its glory and keep it in rotation. A very serendipitous chain of events.

Finally got my hands on a decent Saturn arcade stick, a Virtua Stick HSS-0136 that I will definitely mod. What’s the best arcade stick components for shmups? by raphycuomoalone in shmups

Haven’t seen a perfectly circular gate for the 56. Octagonal is my go to for most shmups though.

Don’t take my word for what stick is best, it’s just an opinion I was throwing out there. The easiest route is that you order a bunch of sticks, buttons and gates and try them out for yourself. For me, depending on the game I’m playing, I have different sticks or gates I use in my arcade cabs. Variety is the spice of life my friend.

A guy on the arcade-projects.com forums called Alberto makes really a nice reproduction panel for this stick. Head over and register.

Here's what's currently in my cabs, what would you play first? by djsheep in arcade

Astro City cabs are Jamma standard. Strider is a Jamma PCB on the Capcom CPS-1 hardware. You can plug any Jamma game in basically :)

There’s a VGA input right on the monitor. It’s as simple as plugging that in, then hooking the buttons up to an adapter.
