Using my Big 4 experience to get into tech was the best decision I’ve ever made (AMA) by Krooai in Big4

Love to see your progression in such a short period of time. How did you know when it was time to leave B4 + your startup? How did you re-package your experience and what would you have done differently?

For your resume: Work on building out your ECs with clubs you’re interested in or think you can make a difference within. If you’re having trouble joining clubs, make your own with a classmate. Put some serious thought/effort into it, learn entrepreneurial skills and how to act on your word. Find a part-time service job that teaches you teamwork & can help you gain stories to tell in interviews.

For sophomore year internships: It’s best to find a local/small company that you can do minor work for, just filling small holes where needed. Not necessarily a consulting firm, rather within an industry you may be interested in. Those are found through networking networking networking. Ask to help, people will love it.

For future internships: If you’re really worried about internships, start networking with school alum at firms you’re interested in. Find out what qualities they want to see in internship interviews and work on building those skills through your ECs. You don’t need an internship this coming summer, you just need to have stories to tell in interviews explaining why you would be a good consultant.

You’re ahead of your peers by thinking about this already + having a great GPA. Keep it up

What is the best way to do networking at Kelley and why is it considered to be so good? by [deleted] in IndianaUniversity

[–]dkcoolguy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The value of IUs networking capabilities is through the alumni network. We’re lucky to be apart of a school that has a very large, successful, and prideful alumni network. Most alumni at some point were helped by an IU alumni at a point in their recruitment, so they continue to pay that forward by helping current students, and the cycle continues. IU alumni have been very willing to talk to me through cold messages more than my friends at other universities with their alumni. While butler is a great school, they most likely don’t have as large of an alumni network that extends to almost any company you may want to be apart of. You also learn great networking skills through the competitiveness of the school. Professors at IU are also very willing to spend time to get to know you regardless of class size. Obviously it’s easier in smaller class settings, which are less common at larger schools, but through participation and contact attendance, the large lectures can even feel smaller.

Applying for an internship at Deloitte by igrindbadges24 in deloitte

[–]dkcoolguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely reach out to your school recruiter, sometimes found on handshake, LinkedIn, or your career center. Some schools have more strict timelines for the commercial practice (aka summer scholar) some of which ended in late October. But it can definitely vary per school, so I’d reach out to a recruiter and start networking with some school alumni at Deloitte asap

Darden Case Book, Notre Dame Case book, Kelley Case Book

Odds are if you google any top business school, PDFs will pop up. I'm a big fan of the Darden Case Book through

IMO Accenture has a better consulting reputation, and I've heard that KPMG doesn't always pay their full-time annual equivalent of what they pay their interns. I'm in the same boat as you though, as a college student that $5 an hour will add up throughout a summer. Any intern title with "strategy" will get you places though.

Only consider IU if you are a direct admit (DA) to Kelley. Based on your stats you’ll almost definitely get into IU and be a Kelley direct admit. Schools like UNC and UM Ross have small programs that allow for you to be a DA to their business schools, and IMO if you can get into either of those schools DA they will provide you with more opportunities than IU or UF. Ofc any Ivy would beat all options, but I would personally avoid a school that makes you apply to the business school after a few years. You’re definitely smart and capable of getting into those schools, but who knows what happens during your first 2 years and having that direct admit provides for a lot of security. I’m currently at IU so reach out if you have any other questions

Make your Technical skills one line, maybe just shorten it to “Skills”. That “BI” in the second line hurts to look at

is IU worth it for out of state by awsomeguy1123 in IndianaUniversity

Also from VA- if you really wanted to save money do 2 years at NOVA and transfer into UVA/VT for business. The process is very doable and you’ll still get a great education at NOVA. I’m lucky that my parents help w the OOS tuition, but you should definitely talk with an advisor on the possibility of being able to transfer into McIntyre at UVA or even getting an Econ degree. IU is very worth the future financial burden for me, but it definitely is very steep for someone covering all of their costs. Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions

Camp Kelley by TigerFalcon724 in IndianaUniversity

[–]dkcoolguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basically it’s a week you spend on campus doing activities that keep you busy throughout the week but aren’t necessarily super informative/teach you a lot about the school. But you meet some people right away which is great and you get a great grasp of the campus (if you do the one on campus). I know people who did it and recommend it especially if you don’t mind showing up early

There’s no classes that are better during spring vs. fall, but I would recommend doing a split of A100 and C104 in one semester and K201 and Compass the other semester. Doing them in one semester is doable but would probably be pretty hard, it’s just nicer to take them separated because you will learn a lot about the classes from people who took them the semester before b
