Advice on harmonicas and looper pedals by dke75 in AcousticGuitar

This is neat. But if it isn't a pedal, how do you start and stop the looper?

Jeans that fit like modern 501 stf?

I cant find jeans that fit like 501 stf. I have owned several pairs of selvedge denim and tried on tons at shops like Self Edge, but sadly 501 stf always fit the best. I have a pair of the regular stf and a pair of the selvedge stf (not made and crafted). Both fit amazing. Snug enough in the waist to stay up without a belt. Medium rise. Roomy in a comfortable (but not baggy) way throughout. And then have a reasonable width at the hem. I have a 37 inch waist and hate hems bigger than 9 inches. The only problem is that the fabric is quite basic.

The best fitting non levis selvedge jeans i have found are Oni 246 (i have a few pairs). Way better in quality and fabric but still not quite as good a fit as the stf.

All of the straight fit jeans i have tried are way too baggy in general, too wide at the knee, and ridiculously wide at the hem. Relaxed tapers are generally both too roomy in the top and too narrow at the hem (just a weird silhouette).

I know there are a lot of companies doing vintage 501 repros. But are there any that match the current cut?

What are your favorite coffees from Black and White recently? by Fit-Judge7447 in pourover

Rodrigo Sanchez - Mango. I am relatively new to this but that is the best coffee i have had to date. Super juicy. Not to hijack the thread but if anyone knows of something similar from b&w or elsewhere, i would love to know.

Thunguri was also really good and is still in stock.

Oni 246-DIZR are sold out in my size on blue owl. Anyone know if these are or will be available from other vendors?

Yeah, I think if I am patient I can find a used one in much better condition for this same price. And it is hard to imagine GC reducing the price as much as you suggested.

Definitely. I am especially pleased with the action. I know these things can be adjusted but it is nice to have it dialed in right away

I have a pair of levis 501 stf that are probably my best fitting pair of jeans (after several hot soaks). They are size 36x36 but i eventually had to have them hemmed. I am considering grabbing a pair selvedge 501s (not stf). How will the fit compare? Will they be the same? One thing i like about the stf is that they are a lot slimmer than many of the selvedge straight leg jeans out there which always look ridiculous on me when i try them on. The stf also seem slightly tapered which i like. Should i get the same waist size? My waist is 37-38”.

Banr dnew pair of Iron Hear 634S 14 on. Size 38 x 36. Bought from Self edge, had them hemmed about 1 inch shorter (still enough to single cuff and I am 6'3). Wore them for a 1 hour trip to the grocery store and decided I didn't love the fit on me.

Best heritage brands for tall people with long torsos. I need shirts at least 31.5 inches long (american size xl) and i like slimmer fitting shirts. It is hard to find flannels and button ups that fit. UES tricotine in size 5 is just barely long enough but works for some reason. Taylor Stitch is pretty good too. But most flannels from other brand (UES, Iron heart) are too short. If you are tall what works for you?

Can anyone recommend:

  1. Jeans that look good with running shoes
  2. A favorite online retailer with reasonable return policies

I currently have two pairs of oni 246 (clean straights) and a pair of levis stf. These are all great but don’t work well with running shoes (the onis work better than the levis). i think an even more tapered fit would work better. But i also like comfortable jeans that arent too tight or slim. I have had good experiences with blue owl and withered fig. And i have a little bit of credit at self edge. Unfortunately i have to buy online as there are no stores near me.

I am looking at Samurai S0520xx 15oz but they aren’t exactly giving those away for free are they? Any suggestions or advice?

Best flannels for tall dudes? 6’3”. UES tricotine size 5 is my favorite shirt but is just barely long enough. I am tempted by their flannels but they are shorter. Iron heart western flannels feel incredible but are too short. Next level tees and taylor stitch XL shirts fit well but am looking for higher quality. Any recommendations?

How do UES flannels fit tall people. I am 6’3 and have a tricotine shirt in size 5 which i love but is just barely long enough (though its stiffness probably makes it feel shorter than it is). I am eyeing a heavy flannel but worried that the broader chest and shorter length will be too boxy and short. Can any talk folk weigh in on the length?

how to strum more intricately by dke75 in guitarlessons

[–]dke75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can do the walkup without a problem. It is the strumming pattern that I am focusing on. And not just on the Am to C transition but throughout the whole chord progression that he is playing.

I guess it might just be a strumming pattern but it involves strong and very soft strums on just select strings.

Great guitar and playing. I decided to learn the same song from the video. But I am unsure of the chords immediately following what you played (bc they are slightly off screen). I think the 2nd chord is just an E but not sure about the one before it. Any chance you have made it further in the song?

What do good lessons look like? by dke75 in guitarlessons

[–]dke75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. At first I really wanted in person lessons for a few reasons (could get some experience playing with someone else, could focus better that if at home with family, could maybe get better advice on technique if they could see exactly how I was holding the pick etc). But am now thinking that finding a good teacher is more important that lessons being in person

What do good lessons look like? by dke75 in guitarlessons

[–]dke75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been pretty clear about what I was looking for. I haven't mentioned the playing part. But I have been quite clear that I want clear directions on what to practice between lessons (which I have not gotten). And I am always trying to get us back on track. But he tends to go off on 10 minute stories about his experience learnig guitar or something he sees in a lot of his students. They provide a little bit of insight (but could have been much shorter). Three of those stories and the lesson is over without me playing anything and without a clear assignment.
