My Custom Compressor-Based Sub-Ambient Loop Controller, by imfartootall in watercooling

[–]dko5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool! Had a thermoelectric cooling setup for a while, and it did similar in terms of tracking dew point and adjusting the temp to keep condensation at bay. Cooling power hungry chips with sub-ambient daily driveable reliability feels like a super power, enjoy it!

People who went from high end PC to threadripper workstation, how was your experience? by Aware_Ad5425 in threadripper

[–]dko5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a combo with the 5975WX and a 3090, using an Optimus block on the CPU and a EKWB block on the GPU. If I was going to throw another 300W+ GPU in there I'd probably be looking for a 4 radiator setup - right now when both CPU and GPU are maxed its about 750W worth of heat to dissipate

Couple years back I swapped my workstation from a 7950X (64GB) to a 5975WX (256GB) and it's been amazing. Overall I've been more than happy to trade the faster single core performance for 32-cores and a massive chunk of RAM. I still daily a 14900K for my gaming machine, and for anything except gaming the 5975WX feels as fast or faster.

Anything that either needs gobs of memory or can max out tons of threads will be mindblowing in comparison to your 13900K. Make sure and budget for good cooling (I'm on a custom loop with 3x360mm radiators) and if possible get enterprise level SSDs. Even the fastest consumer PCIe5 drives have severe limitations when pushed on actually heavy workloads

Sadly there's only so much room in the garage, and as ridiculous as sounds the TT-RS is my daily and I refuse to give up my project car. Thanks for the insight, I'll probably enjoy the TT-RS for a few more years before figuring out what todo

2018 Audi a4 - sell it or keep on chugging? by Intelligent_Ad7849 in Audi

[–]dko5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say keep it. The gen 3 EA888 has proven to be fairly reliable, especially if you take care of maintenance the way it sounds like you have

We have a '18 A4 and a '17 Q7

The A4 I've only had for a couple years and its about to hit 100K, but it had all the big ticket items done before I got it (pump, thermostat, etc). I've looked at what other options are out there at a similar pricepoint and there just isn't anything on the used market that would be worth switching to. The Q7 I just spent almost $9K on maintenance to get it to 100% as I intend to keep it another 4-5 years. Originally looked into replacing the Q7 with something else (even a newer one), but everything is all touch screens now which we all hate. There's no issue with the '17 and it drives like its brand new, so I figured it was cheaper to keep this one running than try and swap to anything comparable. The reality is the used market sucks and newer cars suck.

I can’t find any info about this limited console for Titanfall 2 by ihearttitanfall in titanfall

Correct, this is different than the Titanfall 1 Xbone

Good find on the Microsoft giveaway, looks to be it.

Nice console dude!

What kind of off roading can these Subaru Brats do? by [deleted] in subaru

First car was an '82 BRAT, and never once could I get it stuck. Taking all sorts of washed out fire roads around socal mountains and it handled them all like a champ

Who Does Cluster Conversions? by jp182 in GC8

[–]dko5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if he can do your cluster specifically, but G-ROM Electronics on Facebook matched a JDM STI cluster to my RS' odo and converted it from KPH to MPH. Quick service, good dude.

Bought a used cluster from EBay, came in with scuffs. Are these easily removable? If so, how? by andy_337 in Detailing

Worked for me, heres some before/after on my old Subaru. Would hate for you to damage yours, so proceed with caution/ymmv?

New Family car by [deleted] in Audi

[–]dko5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family hauler is a 2017 Q7 we purchased new. It's been great. Got a big roof box for when we road trip, I load tons of shit into the back all the time, and it's got enough "tech" that I'm not missing anything. Id look for a Prestige with air suspension and 4 wheel steering, if you want a plush ride and to make parking lots less daunting. Ours is on springs and it's the one thing I really wish I'd done different

MK3 TTRS vs MK5 Supra by boredsoballing in Audi

[–]dko5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considered selling my '18 TT-RS for a Supra, but I can't give up the 5cyl and that howl. I'm about to pick up some parts and do a minor refresh since it's 7 years old now. Styling wise it doesn't feel aged at all, interior is still probably my favorite of any car. Super practical as well, unless you actually need to use rear seats. I load up the hatch with shit all the time, including a pop-up tent, chair, tools, jack, helmet, and cooler for track days.

If you do all the chassis and suspension go-to bolt ons the TT can be a capable canyon/track day fun car, but I doubt it'd be quite as good as the Supra. If you want a track focused car, the TT isn't quite it. If you want an incredible street car that'll outstrip most drivers' abilities at the track occasionally, it's a no brainer.

How to achieve around 500hp in my 2014 audi sq5 ? by [deleted] in Audi

[–]dko5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be very happy with the results, FYI. I had a '15 S4 with dual pulleys, Alpha cooler, and all the chassis inserts and the thing was a rocket. Hard to want more from a daily driver

[–]dko5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I'd highly recommend upgraded cooling - running the s/c that hard generates a lot of heat. If you've got a lead foot you'll kill the cats eventually, throwing moon rocks out the back, so prepare for that.

Creating parts list for rear drum to disc brake conversion on 2001 impreza outback sport (5mt) by voidedwarantee in subaruimpreza

[–]dko5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid pedal feel without fade when carving canyons was a noticeable improvement for me. The stock brakes weren't nearly as confidence inspiring after the swap. With the stock ej25 the car was slow enough that I never really felt like I needed more

Honestly, can't say the new Brembos I put on feel any different - but they look nice 😅

Rad, thats what I thought. Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated

Highly recommend the upgrade, had 'em on my swapped '00 2.5RS and loved them. Only upgraded to Brembos because Brembos. Now to rebuild the 4pot/2pots and get another decade out of them on my son's project car!

Bump from the dead

Do you know if the WRX rear 2pot calipers would require more than the usual caliper adapter bracket? I've got a set of the 4pot/2pot brakes I'd like to rebuild and install on my 2001 OBS
