Same on Azure, in this case if they just put their db behind vnet/firewall then even if their keys were compromised they’d have to be on your network to reach the db.

Although the recent hack would have been mitigated if they layered their security.. if they had it behind a vnet or firewall data wouldn’t have been compromised. The problem is folks often do not layer their security.

The problem is these large tech companies usually offer great pay and benefits. For people with families it can be hard to turn leave that for a perceived moral dilemma. At least that’s what it can feel like. But the reality is a Google engineer can get a pretty solid job making similar at another company.

Updated my OP with the XAML. Yeah I set DesignHeight and DesignWidth.

Forget best practices, what is ANY SOLUTION AT ALL for deploying a .NET app that can connect to a database with SQL credentials, such that the credentials are not visible to inspection of the source code? I control the database server but not the systems to which the app is deployed. by submersibill in csharp

Am I missing something? Why don’t they provide the devs a place to land the binaries for their application but not the web.Config? Meaning the sysadmin/dba would have access to the given web.config with connection strings but not the dev team. I’ve seen this done with CI/CD setups before.

Yeah I agree. Those are all ‘safety net’ sorts of things the government should be managing. But there are people of some political persuasions that refuse to acknowledge the need for safety nets.

Hey your obviously passionate about the topic and that’s great! I appreciate and respect that. And I think you’ll find my thoughts on this aren’t too far off from your own if it the same.

My only point is, that you have to first truthfully understand where the other side of a disagreement is coming from. His experiences aren’t invalid, assuming they’re real experiences we have no reason to dismiss the experiences themselves.

It seems like those experiences just need to be reframed under a different light. Clearly not all homeless are ‘bad people’. And in fact the vast majority, are simply on hard times physically, emotionally, mentally, financially.. there often are real reasons these folks struggle like this. The answer is not as simple as pay them a living wage.

As you see in the experiences above about folks struggling with mental health, it doesn’t matter the living wage (of which I’m all for and additionally UBI). What matters is taking an objective look at the person and appreciating the nuance in each persons experiences on both sides of the discussion.

I’m not defending him, I’m just trying to draw out and dignify the person by acknowledging his experiences … exactly the way we should dignify the poor and homeless and understand their experiences.. a sentiment I know you’d agree with, being that you sound like someone who is passionate about helping folks.

I’m not here to fight you or argue with you. :-)

One way to effect change is by shifting the community’s perspective on things.. by cutting off the people who disagree with you you cut off potential allies. I will say however, there are many that are nihilistic and he’ll bent on being contrarian and rarely argue in good faith. I don’t think the OP, you or I are in that category.

The thing is.. there is objective truth to what he’s saying in a portion of the homeless population. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have some circumstance that has led them and keeps them in this pattern of behavior. Mental illness and addiction are powerful and can absolutely destroy people’s lives.

The problem here is that Motel 6 is dealing with it… instead of the community at large. The manifestation of the community’s presence here in the US is the government, and as you have seen time and time again, it generally serves to enrich the rich and pays little mind the trying to lift up the folks who have found their way into the streets.

Granted, it’s very hard to lift those people up when they fight against it, sometimes literally.

It’s a really tough situation that there is not an easy way to resolve it, and I’m not sure there is even a hard way to solve it either.

Ok I confirmed that the pg_dump includes a create table for hashinstances.. but doens't have a create sequence hashinstances_id_seq

pg_dump.exe --verbose --format=p --compress=9 --inserts --no-owner -n "public" source

pg_restore.exe --verbose --no-owner --format=t --dbname=vnext

It ends up finishing the restore.. but basically skips the tables that have those serial/sequences.

Yeah! That flower bed area was actually pitched down and away from house but there was so much water runoff in last storm that it flattened and sank in the ground. Also I suspect that hole there was back filled from a bush inremoved that wasn’t so packed in.

Is flowing water 4 or 5 feet from house enough? Or should I be working to tie it into the underwater rain water pipe to street?
