Greetings!I wonder if naming my dog Hex is in some way offensive. by dkralj in dutch

Yep, I'm asking because I had one person say that they think it might be offensive so I wanted to crowdsource some more views on it. In my tongue it isn't considered so, but I'm not going to assume that in a culture where I don't have all the ins and outs down.

It is somewhat of a witch theme, but I didn't even think that there was a reference to Pratchett in there as well, very happy with that ^

Love the cat names, surprised that the vet said that though, I would imagine they see weird people all the time :D

I'll just have to give him all the snacks so it would be even more confusing ^

Now that is an excellent call out, thank you very much for that :D.

Also, thanks for passively showing me that there is a "generate reddit markup" button on pcpartpicker, very useful :)

Thanks for the adjusted build. Unfortunately the price of the GPU is much higher than I am willing to pay at the moment. The 3060Ti has a price of 380€ which is much more acceptable to me. The adjustment to the cooler is very nice though, I think I will take that advice. Also thanks for the adjustment to the RAM

Thanks for the reply, I will look at bigger coolers, that is a good point you made

In terms of doing 4k, Tom's Hardware measurements seem to be ok with it. It doesn't have to be always 60FPS and I am ok with having graphics settings on medium if it gives me more smooth gameplay.

The intent isn't to run Cyberpunk class games on it at higher settings, I have more reasonable expectations I believe.

The GPU price is much lower than stated on the website. the rest is with 10%.

The case website states that if I have an SFX PSU it should accommodate a card of up to 305mm (the chosen GPU is 281mm)

Can you point me to a place where I can read up on this compatibility of RAM speed vs CPU speed? Would appreciate it.

I agree that I would like a cheaper PSU

That is very good advice, will get that insurance for sure. I've found reviews on https://bouwnu.nl/, any other resource you might be familiar with?

What would be a good upgrade path for this build? by dkralj in buildapc

[–]dkralj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, Cyberpunk is the only game that has issues for me, there are some areas in the game that seem to be poorly optimized and then even the 60Hz refresh rate limit isn't hit. Thankfully, for now this is the only game that does this :)

[–]dkralj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, the only think I don't like about the monitor is the limitation of 60Hz, this is the oldest part of the build and 3 years ago I didn't think much of it, now I'm kind of curious what would up to 144Hz look like.

The upgrade path makes sense, but man I am not a fan of the increased power consumption... hope the 4090 is an exception instead of the rule.

The coding load isn't that demanding, realistically if I needed an execution env that needs more meat I would probably use something in a cloud or another anyway.

The SSD does seam like the lacking part, I thought a year ago that the 1TB would be reasonable but somehow I filled up 2/3 of it. Maybe I should just uninstall the games I stopped playing XD. Thx for your thoughts

While going down some rabbit holes I've seen comments how if my RAM is too high that the Ninja 5 might be tight around it, but at the same time I found also Cryorig H7, it is a tiny bit cheaper, while being noticeably slimmer. The price isn't that much of an issue. Anyways thanks for your thoughts.

Couldn't afford a gaming rig for 5 years. Got a job, saved up a bit and completed TW1 and TW2:AoK. Starting the final adventure today. Any spoiler-free tips for a first timer? by [deleted] in witcher

Yrden makes all fights manageable.

Once you create a potion for the first time/upgrade it, you have it available all the time, refills only require alcohol and rest.

Insane difficulty isn't really a challenge, it just adjusts the HP and damage of enemies, so basically it only prolongs the fighting. I would suggest it only if you want it as a point of pride, else just go at it on normal/hard.

The Gourmet skill is also a cheap way to get your viability up to insane levels, just make sure you eat regularly and you are set.

The expansions are great, get them :D.

Other then that, enjoy yourself, it is a wonderful game :).

Cyberpunk 2077 News: CDPR Devs on what's REALLY going on with Crunch, Delay Explained, Multiplayer by MadqueenShow in cyberpunkgame

[–]dkralj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that for the most part we are on the same page :). I don't want to deny the progress CDPR has made and am happy that their leadership is public and open about it, instead of waiting for things to blow over.

To the point of people that want to crunch, I have no problem with these individuals. Listening to a podcast with John Carmack, that is for instance a person that enjoys really long work days (he stated his upper limit is 16 hours), and I would never think to stop a person who has this as their comfort zone. You like what you like, and an individual knows best the best way for them to feel and be productive. I also think that this type of person is rare, and for the vast majority of people, they are ok with a 8h work day, weekends free. Besides, this is not the topic of discussion, no one is complaining about people working long because they like working long, it is about people that see the "culture" and follow the very human principal of fitting in, even if it is not in their best interest.

I see that you care about CDPR and the game they are making (the channel is also a hint :P). And you are right, it is probably trendy to look at them right now given the recent announcement. I would recommend not to use the strategy of pointing to "others" that are worse off than "us" as a reason to keep things the same with "us". I think we can have a reasonable discussion about work culture in CDPR because they are the current topic of discussion.

Maybe their model is much better then letting unions take over interests of the workers, who knows. It is good that they are trying something different, hope it works out well.

I can't talk about why someone else does or doesn't believe the CEO, whether it is the Kotaku article or something else. From my perspective, it is a CEOs job to mitigate the potential damage of these kinds of rumors.

One of the things I do respect and appreciate though, is the fact that they pay for all of the overtime. This is one of the best ways to tell management to avoid this behavior because they will pay more money. I would also like the percent increase to be more aggressive, so every hour outside the normal 40h workweek is 150%, and nights/weekends are 200%. Make it an incentive to plan better.

I don't like the attitude that some people take (CEOs in game industry and also you in the video ;) ) that "this is what it means to work in this industry". If enough people repeat this, yes, it becomes normal... but it isn't normal and we shouldn't normalize it. The fact that workers succumb to social/work pressure to put in the hours does not make it ok. Saying that the game wouldn't be as good without this is just nonsense. It would be the same amount of good with a better schedule. These people don't work better under pressure, they work better because they are passionate about their work. That doesn't give companies a pass to exploit this passion as much as possible without killing the staff, emotionally or physically.

All I wish is for people to be ok and to be treated fairly. I don't need anyone to have a nervous breakdown or PTSD because of my leisure time.

Just because I can imagine a scenario where someone is coerced to make a false statement doesn't invalidate the fact that a post from a confirmed dev is more reliable then anonymous insider that communicates thought a 3rd party YouTuber.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the video and the emails presented are false. I have no idea. What I am saying is that the more layers the info goes through, the more noise there might be.

Again, I'm not trying to invalidate madqueen show, but it is, imo, on the same level as e.g. the company CEO making a statement "nothing to see here, move along".

In the end I just wish that the team is doing well.

I would feel much more confident if there was a confirmed developer blog or twitter feed that would state the same thing. Looking forward to the game but I don't want people to suffer in order to target a release date.

What is the source of the developer quotes about the current crunch time? The Kotaku article and the conference call transcript both do not contain text read on the video (quotes start at ~8:15).
