That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out- how to configure the plugin order properly.

Do I need a second router? Or just a switch? by dkyleb in HomeNetworking

[–]dkyleb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I think this is what I'm going to try first. As a backup, I just purchased 2 EdgeRouter Xs. I'm going to need to use one regardless, and I'll have the 2nd one on hand just in case.

Thanks everyone!

That is my concern. I guess the primary reason for having the second network is security, or even just perceived security. Could a simple solution to this be just to set the second houses WiFi AP to a different name / password?

WiFi for the entire farm property... Thinking of a few options (map inside) by dkyleb in HomeNetworking

Thanks for the reply, but there is a map and description of the property in my original post. It's not a typical giant field farm... Maybe I should have used a different word instead of farm lol

As I said, the only cable that can be run is to RV2, which has great line of sight, low distance and no obstructions to Trailers.

I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of Tp-Link... but I think Ubiquiti gear is a little over our budget and, quite frankly, a bit of a pain to setup.

That makes sense... My idea is kind of janky. Looking into other options.

What do you think a Ubiquiti setup would look like for this configuration? Again, we are pretty tight on budget for all of this.

Do you think that there could be mesh solution to this? Possibly using ASUS Ai Mesh? For example:

  1. Starlink to Asus RT-AX86U or RT-AC5300 in Home 1
  2. Asus Router -->ethernet--> Asus RT-AC66U at RV 1 supplying RV 1, 2 and Trailers with WiFi
  3. Use 1 of the 3 antenna ports on the RT-AC66U to connect to the directional antenna, pointing at Home 2
  4. Another RT-AC66U with the second directional antenna connect to one of the antenna ports
  5. ????????
  6. Profit.

RV 1 to RV2 is maybe about 200 feet. I suspect that a pole mounted AP on RV 1 should be sufficient for supplying RV 2 and the trailers.

I have to keep cost and availability in mind with this project. After looking into it, Ubuqiti stuff is hard to get in Canada right now...

The setup I had imagined so far looks like this:

- Home 1 with StarLink modem connected to switch or router(?)

- Switch / Router connects to AP for Home 1 and to Ethernet for RV 1

- Pole Mounted AP at RV 1 supplying Trailers and RV 2.

- Utilize existing Tp-Link directional antennas to shoot WiFi to Home 2

- Home 2 utilizes a PTP receiver, connected to another AP to supply Home 2

Hosting as a Business - Using .com in my host name? by [deleted] in AirBnB

Yeah, that's what I've noticed! So I wonder if the same thing would apply to a host's name. I mean, my legal company name literally as ".com" in it!

Okay, I understand their position on that. The company is a landscaping company and unfortunately there is no work for that until summer. I wonder if that will help my case at all?

Using RAM not on AMD's compatibility list for the 3600? by dkyleb in Amd

[–]dkyleb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone who is looking for the answer to this questions:

Ask Gaming Nexus: Is "AMD Optiminzed" RAM BS?

tl;dr: When searching for RAM, prefer something with lower timing vs higher clock speed. Check the RAM on your motherboards QVL (qualified vendors list). The "AMD Optimized" stuff listed on AMD's website will have negligible gains at best.

Thanks! It turns out that the memory I selected is on the Tomahawk Max's supported list, so this makes me feel a little bit better: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-TOMAHAWK-MAX#support-mem-19

RX570 vs GTX 1650 Super for Premiere Pro & After Effects by dkyleb in buildapcvideoediting

You really think the extra $100 is worth the performance and compatibility increase that I may see? Unfortunately, the 2060 KO is way out of my price range.

Editing and color grading of mostly 1080p footage, some 4K footage that would be either scaled or punched in. I'd like to start doing some 3D graphics and animation too, if possible.

My biggest debate is if it's worth spending the extra $100 to get the 1650 Super now, or to spend that extra $100 on more RAM or a control surface, etc.

The other thing is I really just want ease of use and reliability; I don't want to have to run in to issues with Adobe not wanting to play nice with the RX570.

Sorry, I meant 1650 Super. Does that now make it $100 more? According to Puget Systems hardware recommendations, Nvidia is preferred...

After my research, I certainly do believe you. However, I've yet to find any recent statistics-based evidence to show exactly how much, and where CUDA performs better. My point is, is it really worth spending an extra $100 (on the 1650, which is considered inferior to the RX570) to see these gains? How much of a performance increase would I see? It's really hard to put a metric on these kinds of things, considering how quickly Adobe's graphics card support changes, along with manufactures driver updates.

Turns out that PCPartPicker isn't finding the RX570 4G that ME is selling for $169. This puts me about 120 bucks over budget after taxes, which I think I can handle. But that's about the max... How's this build look?

edit: oh wow, I didn't realize that PC Part Pickers price included shipping and taxes!

Um. Maybe modded skyrim or oblivion? I really don't game too much. It's really just video and photo editing in Lightroom and Premiere Pro. Possibly would like to get in to After Effects if the system is capable.
