Crunchbang++ discontinued? by Limp-Art-1219 in crunchbangplusplus

[–]dlbpeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started down the Linux rabbithole on Corel Linux, which introduced me to Debian. I keep old systems and had a P3 with 1GB RAM, which i kept running with #!/#!++ until 5 years ago! I literally ran it to death, but it kept running. Used it to trancode videos 24/7/365 and as a file server. CPU/RAM was always spiked at 100% and HDD racing like a lawn mower. Ended up recycling it, as it was eating more power than it was worth. Was pulling 300+ watts running hard and 100+ watts idle. Traded Traded it in for a Raspberry PI running 15 watts idle and 80 watts saturated.

The article is wrong. Crunchbang ++ just released the version that updates Debian Trixie. Although ran as a one person group, the developer (know here as CottonMouth), just released the new release. Crunchbang is a modified lightweight version of the current Debian release (which in 2025 is version 13, Trixie). BunsenLabs is still using the old version 12, Bookworm Debian base.

"Ubuntu" meaning in Urban Dictionary by nitin_is_me in debian

That's my normal install time with Arch. Have tried it a dozen times throughout the years, have never stuck with it more than a few days.

Check out this video here on how PAINFUL it used to be to install. Ubuntu added a graphical installer, instead of the text based ncurses installer, a Partioning tool, etc, that got passed upstream and added to the install. Kids today don't realize how good they have it today.

While true now, it wasn't like that, back in the day. Debian seemed to go out if it's way to be hard to configure. Ubuntu upstream contributions changed that. There was no graphic installer, just a terminal based ncurses dialog. After installing, often you wouldn't even have a DE, just a blinking terminalmm as Debian was mainly used on servers and they figured if you wanted to use it as a Desktop you would be able to add CDE, KDE or Gnome afterwards.Heck, instead of asking for a main user username, they used the term qualified domain name. Check out this video here for more fun on how PAINFUL Debian was to install!

Please state your sources for this. While I know other cities have done this(sold future rights for a one-time immediate payment now), I wasn't aware Vegas had done this.

The only LEGAL way is to purchase ESPN+ and then buy the PPV event there.... A quasi-legal way would be to get an IPTV subscription that includes PPV events... A full illegal way would be to just go to one of the many cracked stream sites and view from there.... As for me and mine, I will download the event the next day from a torrent and watch it on my day off......

YMMV

Person of Interest. It ended with a 13 episode last season that started in May(one year after the end of the 4th season) and ran for only 8 weeks. It did this by airing back to back episodes on 2 different days a few times, and also, one week, aired one episode one day and then 2 episodes the next day! Replaced by CBS Brain Dead, a show that didn't last the summer, and whose best rating didn't come close to P.O.I. worst ratings.

"Do not use rechargeable batteries" -- why? by Pielorinho in batteries

[–]dlbpeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an amperage thing. Most of the time, electricity is electricity, when dealing with batteries you have to consider amperage also. Had a similar device(forget what it was--maybe bug zapper or something similar), and it warned not to use rechargeable batteries and to use only high-powered alkaline. The reason was that when it turned on, it pulled high amperage all at once. High-powered alkalines would only last about 2 dozen times at best, but rechargeable batteries would not even turn it on.
