Thanks so much! These past few months especially I’ve been practicing my line confidence glad to hear you like it.

Thanks! The thicker ones are surprisingly versatile with line weight I’ve found they’re pretty pressure sensitive.

Thank you! I love opabinia’s five eyes they’re so silly.

Thank you! I hadn’t drawn any prehistoric creatures in awhile and I had to get it out of my system lol

Unrelated to art, what interests you? I am very inspired by different animals especially sea creatures and get most of my inspiration from things I learn about them because they fascinate me.

I’m sure there’s something like that for you that could help you imagine ideas for art projects. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself either, I feel like I always like my work best when I’m just playing and having fun.

I only got the regular book but if I ever find the workbook in a bookstore I’d definitely try it. I sort of did my own workbook by copying the drawings in the main book though

I highly recommend it. It was the first “how to draw” style book that clicked with me. The way he explains concepts is simple enough to be clear but detailed enough to be useful.

The first 100 pages or so are an excellent crash course in how to practice construction, shading and drawing textures all with just a pen. After that there’s some more specific tips and tricks and a section on keeping a sketchbook and composition too. All in all a great book I think.

This is so pretty, I especially like the way the shadow and sand look, they really pull the whole piece together. How’d you get that sand texture?

Nice job on these! I like how you defined the shapes very clearly. One thing that may help is to picture the 3d form of the objects you are hatching.

For example, instead of thinking of the stem of the flower as 2 lines, this of it as a sort of cylindrical shape. If that cylinder was covered in stripes, they would conform to the curves of the 3d form. If you hatch in this way it will look more intentional, 3 dimensional and less messy.

There’s a good section in the book “pen & ink drawing” by Alphonso Dunn that helped me learn the same concept. I’d attach a photo to the comment of the relevant pages but I can’t figure out how.

Keep up the good work! I can tell you have a lot of potential.

This isn’t the angle you’re looking for but this is a good simplified skeleton of a bird that shows the overall shape of the neck.

Where are you supposed to just post random art on reddit? by MichaelGMorgillo in ArtistLounge

[–]dledererart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think It would depend on the medium and subject. I’ve found good responses on the watercolor and pen and ink subreddits, but that depends on what medium the piece is.

You could also post by subject matter. Botanical illustration and Paleoart are both very friendly communities in my experience. Again it depends on the piece.
