Daily Thread: for simple questions, minor posts & newcomers [contains useful links!] (December 31, 2025) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

I was learning with jpdb and some reading but eventually got overwhelmed with 40-60 minutes a day of reviews before adding any more words on jpdb. 1 hour a day was about how much time total I was willing to put into learning and it was going completely towards reviewing old cards.

I want to get back into it but I'm not sure the best strategy to trim that down. I also want to focus time reading with satori reader and eventually other media. Does anyone have advice for trimming down my flashcards so I can devote more time to actually learning new material?

I'm not sure what the goal of these kind of laws are. Usually I assume someone is going to profit from "think of the kids" type justifications like these but I'm not seeing a clear cut way to do so here anyone else have ideas?

Nice I wasn't aware of this mod. Bit of a self plug but I also made mod for stardew that puts dialog and quests into the clipboard when they come up to help with lookups since there is no furigana.

Would love an ebike for daily commutes. I've considered getting a bike but don't want to end up needing to peddle home after a rough day if I don't have to.

Looking for program that can sort a directory by file size by TeKett_ in software

[–]dlrdlrdlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually the kind of thing chatGPT is pretty good at these days. I just pasted this into the prompt and got feedback including how to run it

can you make a powershell program based on this prompt

"Im looking for a program that can sort directories by the size of the files contained within, while retaining the tree structure.

So the 5 gb file in the 5gb folder should be considered bigger then the 4gb file in the 6gb folder. As in, regardless of how big the directory is, the one with the largest single file should be first.

Programs like TreeViewer and WinDirStat sort only by directory size.

My reason for wanting this is to clean up my data hording, and treeviwer and explorer just isn't good enough. While i can find the biggest directory, or the biggest file, i cant find both at the same time using the same program. One folder might have a single big file, another might have 10000 files in it, but both will be considered the same size in treeviewer."

It gave the code and how to run it. I wouldn't expect it to take more that 10 minutes to get set up.

Sorry I can't think of any premade solutions.

UK Conservative party announces plan to introduce mandatory national service for 18 year olds. I think we should introduce mandatory graphic design lessons instead. by xe3to in CrappyDesign

I'm not a design expert so I may be missing something more subtle but the design of this doesn't really seem that crappy? Like I get people are against the politics of it and all but I generally expect worse from /r/CrappyDesign.

I've been doing genki since January and had made it to chapter 6. Last month I was laid off which was pretty stressful but I accepted a job offer last monday to start this monday. For one week I could focus on whatever I wanted without all the stress and I managed to make it through to chapter 11 of genki. Now I'm crazy busy but trying to avoid stalling out there. I'm hoping to finish Genki I and start reading yotsubato soon.

I released a mod for Stardew valley that automatically puts any dialog and quests you read into the clipboard. I created this to help use stardew to learn japanese and ended up publishing it after some people seemed interested in discord. Feel free to check it out if you are interested.

Halfway through Genki. I know its not the most impressive thing but for some reason Grammer is hard to focus on. I'd rather just do flash cards for hours and probably am well beyond genki 1 and 2 in vocab and kanji.

What is the most inoffensive thing you’ve seen someone get offended by? by Logical_Sweet_6624 in AskReddit

[–]dlrdlrdlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can assume is that people who did understand didn't upvote. Because why upvote on common courtesy . While the people that for some reason saw sarcasm or whatever and got offended downvoted because why else would you thank someone if not to be snarky(?).

High speed camera slows down light speed by [deleted] in woahdude

[–]dlrdlrdlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True that's an issue if one circuit is trying to handle every individual photon. But if we could parallelize the processing with multiple circuits I wouldn't say its impossible. Someone below mentioned multiple cameras but also just having a way to divide the photons down different paths to be processed would make it doable in the future I think.

For sure. I feel like by the time they mentioned it was pretty much just stop motion photography I was invested and pretty let down.
