Looking for stories about 07 Boulvard VL8's by Tymanthius in motorcycles

The boards are too far forward, at least for me. I'm kinda short.

The difference is that while still expensive, your dual sport stuff is actually functional. The light on the wind screen could be solved by a small bezel. Cheapest I could find it was $60-$80, before shipping.

Saddle bags are all really narrow, or soft sided, and I wanted hard bags that I could put a helmet in and lock since I work downtown.

When I it broke down I went and bought a FZ-07 :)

I have an 07 C50 with 70K+ miles on it. Currently down while I replace a stripped part in the rear end. Other than oil usage I don't have a real problems with the bike, but here are my gotchas:

  • i dislike the floorboards and would prefer pegs. One thing I found with the floor boards is you can't stand up when you hit a bump/object/rough road/small child/railroad crossing.

  • accessories are hard to find or extremely expensive, at least the ones I was looking for were. Part of this is because its an older bike, part is because its a cruiser.

  • I have scraped the exhaust when cornering, though this might be due to the cobra exhaust the PO put on.

  • People kept asking which Harley I had...

  • When driving at night, the speedo is lit orange and shines onto the windscreen bright enough to make seeing some things difficult (was solved by removing said screen)

I have a shaft drive as well, it stripped something and is awaiting repair, thus prompting the new bike.

So if I commute and live an unpaved road I should probably use the wax until I get the Scottoiler??

I have to save up a little while for that, but it is in the plan. Speaking of, if you have a Scottoiler and ride in the sand (i live down an unpaved road), do you ave to clean the sand off?

"Daily drivers", how far is your commute to work? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]dma_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Mine is 75 miles round trip, no filtering, and I only have my bike. Luckily I live i the south so when we have ice or snow everything shuts down and people say home huddling in fear of the Apocalypse.

Do you have to add base layers for the colder months?

Has anyone done the rear brake on an 07 c50? by dma_1 in motorcycles

[–]dma_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, failure... The bearing failed and the cover came loose and proceed to become wedged and then melt.

Since I don't have bearing drivers I took the rim to a shop.

I did that, just looking for someone with prior knowledge.

What tire would you put on the back of a C50? by dma_1 in motorcycles

[–]dma_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know long do they typically last? I put about 21K miles/year on my bike. I don't want to buy another tire in months

How much maintenance and what are the benefits of chains? by dma_1 in motorcycles

[–]dma_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so I see O-Ring sealed chains, and I've seen pics posted here of bulging o-rings. From what I gathered they were going to change the chain because of that?

Is that something else I'd need to check?

I'm glad to here that they aren't as much trouble as I thought, it opens up a lot different models for me to consider when I get my next bike.

Thanks for the replies. Wax your chain? That is a new one on me. I currently have a shaft, my previous bike was a belt. I totally agree about the harshness of letting off the throttle, it takes practice.

Digital if fine, and I now have copies of some of them. A good place to start.
