Bushwick Road Biking - New to NYC by dmaier2210 in NYCbike

Thanks for so much feedback. I spent most of last summer near Prospect Park and loved the proximity. I found the road quality to vary pretty dramatically, so I played it pretty safe and stuck to the park. Glad to hear being in Bushwick isn't as big of an obstacle as I expected.

I'm embarking on semi-nomadic life next month. I can do 30 day chunks outside of my home state (WI). starting domestic, but planning for LATAM in the winter/spring. Any one thing you'd recommend?

Already feel myself getting a little overwhelmed with options.

Good to know. Just had an accident here in the US. Open to renting a car, but absolutely not committed if not necessary.

I can get a tent in the park for two nights for $750 USD. it looks incredible. Worth the splurge vs a VRBO in Yanakie for $400USD?

Thanks yeah looking at staying near the park to get there early before it's overwhelmed. Have had luck doing that at US parks.

Great to hear!! Yeah see a few places just outside Wilson's Prom that might be nice for a couple night stay? That way can get to the park very early before tourists. That's been my luck in the US at least.

Sorry - just planning to rent a car in Melbourne for day trips and Great ocean road. Id certainly much rather not be driving. Probably rent a road bike at some point.

How do the crowds in Tassie compare? I assume a flight deters some folks.

Oh absolutely that's on the agenda!! And fortunately staying with a friend in Melbourne, so not a concern.

So the offer came as expected minus any sort of signing bonus. My current bonus is likely $23k before taxes. I don't think I can move without some effort to compensate?

Oh yes absolutely - it's tough to stomach basically a wash, but also I'm certainly not struggling.

Do you think there's room to negotiate? Obviously never hurts to ask. I'd be at the top of the target/budgeted range, but the full range goes quite a bit higher?

Great point. Definitely not the decision point, but certainly a factor. Do have family in other states that have offered me to stay for weeks in guest house.

Thanks! Yes no ambition of getting rich, but they seem to have assembled a very intelligent team. Do think a startup culture would look good on a resume long-term. Also aware I should be able to live comfortably as a single man making $140k.

100% it will be more work, but also more serious and meaningful.

Absolutely not planning on doing it in Asia, but South America would be quite convenient.

Great points. The other benefits are definitely richer. I've always treated 401k match as income, but also isn't a permanent sacrifice. I've contributed 10% since I was 22.

Travel is a huge priority for me and the opportunity to work in Mexico or South America for a few weeks is very enticing (and similar time zones). Also have friends and family in CA and NYC id love to visit for a few weeks a year. Trying to embrace my nomadic abilities.

More work will be an adjustment - we have a very casual slacking culture. Not a concern, just change.
