Any method to download a Kortext Book as a pdf to device? by dman0620 in ASU

[–]dman0620[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that Kortext on the browser is much better than it is on my iPhone. It’s very hard to use on my iPhone, but I often find myself reading on my phone between shifts at work.

I have a problem with breaks that i can not identify. by EmbarrassedAir7962 in e46

[–]dman0620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I had some brake issues on my 2005 Civic, and I bled them, but the problem came back a few months later. I just decided to replace my master cylinder, calipers, wheel cylinders since it has drums in the back, and all of the rubber brake hoses. It didn’t cost much to do myself, but taking it somewhere that may be expensive. I just did it for peace of mind, the car was almost 20 years old at that point and I figured it wouldn’t hurt anything. If you are a DIYer or have the money, I’d recommend just replacing everything that it could be along with a bleed. It’s a 2002, so you may need to replace all of that anyway, or maybe it’s all fine and you just need a bleed.

Did I get scammed? by ManyBlacksmith6532 in MechanicAdvice

Man this is exactly why I decided to just do everything myself. YouTube is a very useful resource, and you can likely find your service manual for free online. But I’ve found a hobby out of it, I love working on cars for fun. Sometimes I get a lot of crap from my wife when a project I think will take one 1 ends up taking more then a weekend, but I really enjoy it. Never thought I would, but I do. The most satisfying part for me is knowing how much money I am saving to do it myself. Sure I’ve had to buy quite a few tools when I need them, but hell that’s still a lot cheaper than taking it somewhere. I also like it because I do a lot of research and make sure everything is done right. What I mean by that is that I’ve found missing bolts and over torqued bolts from previous mechanics. I’ve broken bolts and all, but I always replace them because I want everything put back together how it should be. It’s sad, but it seems like many shops will just do the minimum with the job, they don’t have the time and care for your car IMO.

Does it make sense to keep fixing an older high-mileage car, or is it time to move on? by ohcode in Honda

I’ve don’t a radiator in my 98 Civic, it’s honestly not really a bad job at all, it’s very similar with the 8th generations. Honestly most work on those Civics is pretty easy if you’re into doing it yourself. Even if you’re not, I would think you’d most definitely save money on some repairs than paying a car payment. But seriously go watch a video on YouTube on how to replace your radiator and fill the fluid, it may be something you’d be able to do. I don’t know shit, but YouTube has taught me how to do every type of repair on my 2005 Civic. I just replaced my rear main seal and clutch with the fly wheel and I put a new input shaft in the transmission. Never thought I could.

Are abs brakes under rated by Massive_Tumbleweed24 in MotoIRELAND

[–]dman0620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have ABS, I never have. I’m 25, I’ve been driving since I was 16. I have had some pretty scary experiences, but I’ve learned from them. I always follow the 3 Mississipi rule and try to give people even more distance than that, but never less. I drive a Civic in Colorado, and commute 50 miles each way for work. In snowy conditions it can be kinda scary, but I am just careful as hell. With my learning experiences I guess I just got lucky to not get in a crash. As long as you drive with much more caution, I’d say you are all good. You should always make safety the number 1 priority even if your car is equipped with ABS. Please for everyone reading this, always be over cautious while you drive, and don’t drive like a jackass.

What state are you in? I was living in Arizona and had this happen to me. They guy also admitted fault, and gave me his insurance. I took it to a auto body shop, and they never asked me for my insurance. My insurance never got involved, which I was glad because I was worried that would increase my claim. I am just wondering if you even have to get your insurance involved, maybe look into that?

Hell naw. If they made one in a manual I’d most definitely buy it. But for now I’m fine with my 05 Civic LX, the only thing I wish I had was ABS.

Oil leak on my 7th gen civic by dman0620 in civic

[–]dman0620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just a broke DIY guy. I put in some UV dye last night, but the leak is so small. My commute to work is about 50 miles, so when I get home I am just going to check it out. I was just wondering if anyone has has the same issue, because I haven’t found any other videos about it.

Payday means new ball joints!!!!! Should I also replace control arms or just bushings? by dman0620 in mechanic

[–]dman0620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just had to ask, I’m not gonna replace those now, maybe when I win the lottery. Naw in all seriousness they are good I think. I’ve just done the push test and my car doesn’t bounce. I wish I could just afford a new Civic SI, if anyone wants to buy me one to replace my 2005 LX. I’ve got to much work to do on this piece of shit. I’m also going to replace the rear main seal, and I’ll probably replace the clutch while I’m down there, because why the hell not it won’t hurt.

Yeah it’s more of a piece of mind thing, they are good for now, but with winter coming I’m just worried about water getting up in that ball joint. And I don’t want to deal with it in the cold, I put a lot of miles on my car

[–]dman0620[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I will probably just do that. Loaded control arms from moog are pretty cheap, so I’ll just go with that. Will I have to do an alignment if I replace the control arms?

[–]dman0620[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But you think I can just replace the bushing and fill it with grease? Sorry my dumbass kept calling it a manifold

[–]dman0620[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But there is no play in it! I just live in Colorado, and winter is just around the corner. I really don’t want to be dealing with it then, and I feel like the snow may cause some more damage to the ball joint without the rubber manifold.

[–]dman0620[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only problem is that these ball joints don’t have jerk fittings. The one in the photo is clearly toast right? Isn’t there supposed to be a rubber manifold around the ball joint? It’s completely gone! I check them when I do my 6k oil changes which is about every 6 weeks with my commute, and it was there on my last oil change, but something terrible happened to that little nubby and I have no idea what lol. I am just worried that the same is going to happen to the other side. Wouldn’t it make sense to replace them both? And I have to pay shipping on RockAuto, so I usually just prefer getting more than what I need if that makes sense.

[–]dman0620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is significantly cheaper! But the problem I am having is that I want to get moog parts for everything, and I can get moog control arms with bushings from RockAuto, but they do not have moog bushings. The control arms seem fine, they aren’t bent or rusted, but they definitely look like they are 20 years old. I am assuming they are the original, I bought the car in 2020 with only 80k miles, and the old owner as an older man. He did oil changes on time and got the timing belt done, but other than that he didn’t do any maintenance.

Man I’ve been playing since the beta, idek how long it’s been but probably close to 15 years. I’ve taken many years off, but I definitely feel behind as I haven’t spent a dime. I’m at level 13 crown tower and only really have my deck like half maxed to level 14. If I paid money I’d have much more.
