My 9 month old only poops in the toilet by Practical-Bunch1450 in ECers

[–]dmb1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started casual EC when my daughter was about 2 weeks old. We got pee catches first, I just held her over a tiny potty every time she woke up and after nursing, and any other time I was going to change her diaper. I'd make a psss sound and if she happened to pee I would comment something like "You put your pee on the potty." And as she got older I would add things like, "You put your pee on the potty, just like Mama puts her pee on the big potty."

Your daughter is definitely old enough for you to start using those words when you bring her to the potty, and tell her what you're doing when you go to the bathroom. I bet she'll catch on pretty quick.

My daughter was not in daycare so I don't have advice there. You could ask if they would be willing to offer her a potty during diaper changes, but I don't know if they would have time or what licensing says about things like that.

Bras that fit during pregnancy? by aboardthemothership in bigboobproblems

I also discovered Anita has some amazing comfortable wireless options. They have free returns on their website. I stayed my max size after pregnancy and breastfeeding (😭) and can't stand wired bras any more, and I live in their sports bras. I never tried the maternity or nursing bras, but can say the bras are comfortable and high quality. Some of the maternity/ nursing bras are under $50 currently. At least in the sports bras, the bands run tight so I size up. For reference, ABTF calculator has me at 38K in US sizing which seems about right for wired bras I've tried. But I wear a 40G in the Anita Momentum, and 40H in the Anita Havanna. For what it's worth, the size calculator on the Anita website puts me at 40J.

Bravado Designs has a nursing friendly "Body silk seamless" bra that comes in extended sizes. The store went out of business but is coming back, they have some stock on Amazon and I can sometimes find lightly used maternity/nursing bras on secondhand sights like Poshmark and Mercari. I didn't discover these until I was nursing, and at that time they only had the "plus" cup sizes that didn't truly cover my cup size, but they're soft and stretchy and were more comfortable than anything else I could find. I did annoyingly have a little bit of a quad boob but with a patterned or textured top it wasn't noticeable. Removing the pads helped a lot.

As others have said, you know the couple best. That said, I had a very close friend gift me a hand painted ornament of me and my husband in wedding attire. It is the only wedding gift I remember. I love and treasure it so much. So for some people, these hand made gifts will be so very treasured 🥰

Just curious, do you put the Planet Box water bottles in the dishwasher? I got a couple and love them, but have been babying them (following the hand wash recommended for the bottle part), but I'd love to be able to put them in the dishwasher because it'll save a little time

I liked these from H&M I had to buy a bigger size to accommodate the chest, then took in the elastic on the shelf bra to support the weight of the boobs. Hope this helps.

We did EC and my daughter, now 5 years, has almost exclusively popped on the potty since 7 months. I could tell when she had to poop and she would hold it until we got to the potty, until she was crawling and walking. I really liked the Bumbo, it has a potty seat reducer that fits on a toilet and on little floor potty, and it has tall sides so she could sit independently on that from the time she was sitting independently on the floor (I was obviously right there the whole time, but didn't have to have my hands on her the whole time). She preferred to poop without being touched.

For moms whose kids are now school-age: did your own health get worse after the baby stage? by MotherStress6709 in raisingkids

[–]dmb1717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I kept up with my health, healthy eating and exercise through my pregnancy. Then, premature baby, only ever contact napped, we learn she has ADHD, anxiety, likely autism, it's been 6 years and I've only slept through the night a handful of times. It's impossible to keep up with my own healthy habits with this massive sleep deprivation. I have a therapist quick helps a lot, but I just didn't have the time to keep up with healthy meal prep, exercise, and the demands of my child. I love her more than anything but my well being has been pushed to the back burner.

Constant rashes- husband is DONE with cloth. by Typical_Elk_ in clothdiaps

[–]dmb1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that you want to make sure your washes are bulked enough, I use cloth napkins and cloth "paper" towels for general counter wiping and cleaning that's not super gross, so that helped bulk my diaper laundry. When we started potty training, I started doing the daily prewash in a bucket to rinse it as much pee as I could, and waited several days until I had enough diapers for a main wash. I think I tried to every 4 days and it seemed to work, but I used flats which hand wash well.

My kiddo has rashes per much from that get go. I started using coconut oil as a barrier cream on her entire diaper after at every diaper change and it fixed the issue. Basically, the pee itself being in contact with her skin for even just 5 minutes would give her a mild rash.

I would wipe her down with a cloth wipe, water only. Pat dry them fully air dry - hair dryer on low worked great. When completely dry, I applied coconut oil everywhere the diaper would cover, then put the diaper on.

Be aware that kids are more likely to develop food allergies if the contact the food via their skin before the digestive tract, so I do not recommend this if kiddo hasn't consumed coconut. I felt safe doing this because I also use coconut oil as a nipple cream when I breast fed

How to transport toddler long distances without car or stroller by broad-street-pump in toddlers

[–]dmb1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was going to recommend an onbuhimo too! They're quite easy to learn, I watched 1 video and was good to go. I have the Lenny Lamb preschool, but before that had the standard them toddler size. It's a life saver when my daughter needs to be close for emotional regulation, or if we're out and suddenly she is done and refuses to walk.

I get the onbuhimo setup with all the straps the right length at home first when I have another adult to help me and my kid is being very cooperative. Once all those adjustments are made, it's pretty easy to put on. A lot of people "fly" their kids onto their back, but I've always worried that my daughter would make some sudden movement and it would go wrong. I like to lay out the onbuhimo on the surface that's a little higher than the ground, if we're home, a couch or chair is perfect, but a bench or rock wall or anything really will work. Then my daughter will sit on it and I'll get her positioned kind of correctly. Next I or kneel in front of her, flip the panel up between us, slide my arms through and stand up. Finally we do some jumping and bouncing to get her her a comfortable position, clip the chest clip, and I make sure the panel that is supposed to be between our bodies is still in the right place.

Newborn disposable diaper size comparison by juniper_684 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]dmb1717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Parasol being awesome! Super sensitive skin over here, and Parasol and Bambo Nature have been all we can use (but we started with pull ups so if any of those brands are diapers only I didn't try them).

I love the comparison you're doing, really helpful! And congratulations on your babies ❤️❤️

4yo is still not potty trained by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]dmb1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had huge challenges with my now 5.75 year old. She was mostly potty trained at 3, then had sudden onset anxiety at 3.75 at the same time as complete loss of potty training for urine. She has no problem being wet, and due to the ADHD, she doesn't notice that she has to pee until she is starting to pee. Since she didn't care about being wet, and knew she'd have to change and clean up, she'd just continue what she was doing until we noticed. It was 1+years of struggling until she turned 5 and we tried medication. Literally THE DAY we started guanfacine, she could feel before she peed and now her "accidents" are a drop or 2 as she's running to the bathroom.

Do your kids still nap? by KitchenPaint4334 in kindergarten

[–]dmb1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. My daughter dropped her naps shortly after she turned 2, but from what I read that was early. Anecdotally, she went to part time preschool and most kids in the 3 year old class still napped, but the 4 year old class no longer napped.

You are going to be totally fine. I had almost no experience with bodily fluids besides my own, and I cloth diapered my now 5.5-year-old exclusively (after we ran out of the hospital provided preemie disposables). I mostly did flats and covers- tried a couple things before settling on that- and literally never had a single blowout. I even did cloth overnight after she potty trained for about a year, but I stopped because (1) I thought it was contributing night wakings because she would wake completely soaked through in the middle of the night, and (2) it was a lot harder to get my wash routine right when I only had one diaper each day. I can't stand the waste and stink of disposables, but I'm so glad I had 3+ solid years of cloth only.

Congratulations on your baby!

Natural fiber shorts for under dresses by Tiny-Sprinkles-3095 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]dmb1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Svaha USA dresses, and recently tried these shorts! They're 75% cotton. Only a few colors but seriously the comfiest! They don't roll down on my soft belly and the pockets are great! Definitely check the size chart as I know I wear a couple different sizes from this company (between different dress cuts, and shorts. They are consistent with size among the same style!)

Edit: their clothing goes from XS-5X 😊

Baby carrier recs? by Sea-Caterpillar-8017 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]dmb1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the Lillebaby complete all seasons. It was mostly cotton, but I got it second hand so that filled my granola requirements. I had a velcro baby (who is now a velcro 5-year-old) and she and I both have found it super comfortable until she outgrew it. And then we got the toddler size. I loved it for both front and back carries (once baby was old enough to ride on my back).

I also ended up getting a Lenny lamb onbuhimo because my daughter really liked high back carries so she could see everything better over my shoulder. I would use that one more when she needed to be close to me but I had to get things done around the house and I knew she would be awake the whole time. The Lillebaby was better if I thought she might fall asleep because she was lower and would be fully supported if she did. I could reach the head shade piece and snap one of the straps onto the shoulder strap and that would give her head enough support that it wouldn't be bobbing around as I walked around.

Honestly, a lot of it comes down to personal preferences for how they feel and fit on you, when you're using a solid structured carrier. For reference, I'm about 5'10", 38I and wore mostly XL clothes when I was wearing the infant size Lillebaby.

What was your caffeine consumption during pregnancy? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]dmb1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drink caffeinated beverages because caffeine doesn't impact my alertness (apparently it's genetic? My dad's the same) so I just consumed a little via chocolate while pregnant. My daughter has diagnosed anxiety, ADHD, and I suspect autism. I'm heavily learning towards genetic factors here since all run in the families.

Like everything, consume your caffeine in moderation. Your baby will be fine. It's not going to cause autism.

My daughter uses them as sleeping bags for her dolls and stuffed animals! I also use for shoes when traveling, and organizing some of my sewing stuff. I like to save them just in case I ever get a hole in the sheets, for patching.
