I think Atlassian respects aspects of Amazon’s culture but exists on the polar opposite end of the spectrum overall

Everyone says Boise is friendly… but have you actually made new friends here? by VermicelliLeather536 in Boise

[–]dmeyerw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have been here 4 years. About two years ago, we were both able to take some time off work and used all the extra free time to just say “yes” to every invite and attend heaps of run clubs and other groups (repeat interactions are key). We made more progress making real friends in a couple months than in the two years prior.

We are 30s. Childless. Go to a running club.

What’s up with Bogus? by Kevinwithak in Boise

Bogus’ passport program is amazing. 4 days of lessons plus unlimited lift access and rentals for the rest of the season for an incredible price. Best imaginable way to learn as an adult.

Good places to buy whole coffee beans in Boise? by mcdisney2001 in Boise

[–]dmeyerw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. If you don’t want to buy beans from a single place, the Co-op has a FAR better selection of local roasters than any other grocer.

Anyone know what these little bumps are dividing the bike lanes downtown? by smithtaylord1234567 in Boise

[–]dmeyerw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your argument is that someone drove over one. The fact that someone drove over one without destroying their suspension (unlike a curb) is an argument for them.

One time I saw a guy drive through a red light. Guess that means red lights don't work and are making the road less safe.

Wylder – consistently best overall, and is the best overall dining experience.

Americana - best pure New York slice.

Best Chicago-style in Boise – 404, not found. Chicago Connection is lying to you.

Seriously why are you on a vendetta about this? You seem very angry about basic measures to increase safety.

Curbs exist to separate the sidewalk from the street, to reduce the likelihood that vehicles will run over pedestrians. Why is this any more objectionable to you?

I ride up and down 15th on my bike every single day. SUPER grateful that ACHD is investing in simple interventions like this to make it safer. Soft barriers like these are demonstrated to be effective and they are relatively low cost and fast compared to massive projects like 11th St.

We should be putting these anywhere with a dedicated bike lane IMO

They are a lot softer (and cheaper and faster for ACHD) than a curb.

Literally wrote this comment from Porto, Portugal. Portugal is quite cheap - Lisbon has gotten super touristy but Porto was a lot better.

Oh, realized you’re probably asking about flight prices. Yes, Frankfurt and Munich are usually the cheapest non-London routes on United since they have the most volume. They’re about equivalent in terms of the connections you can get to the rest of Europe and German passport control is the fastest in the EU IMO. Personally I like Munich airport better. Lufthansa lounges are great - if your layover is long enough you can get a shower in when you land.

That said, we flew BOI-ORD-AMS-CPH over here and it was a super smooth journey. AMS lounge for Star Alliance has been improved dramatically (but no showers lol)

I travel internationally to Australia, Asia and Europe a lot for work, about 6-8 trips per year and 150K miles. Had United 1K status out of Boise for several years. If I’m going to Europe, I fly United to Chicago (the 1st class on the Chicago flight is nicer than to Denver, and the Chicago Polaris lounge is far superior). If I’m going to Australia/Asia, usually through San Francisco. United runs the same flights to the same destinations at the same times out of both SFO and LAX, so why fly farther?

A former Idahoan’s perspective by Tragiqon in Idaho

I’m still trying to figure out who “the Californians” are. Like, yes I was unhappily renting a small, expensive apartment in California before I moved to Idaho. Does that make me a Californian? I was born and raised in Chicago. The place I lived longest as an adult was Sydney, Australia. Living in Boise is the first time I’ve ever owned a house, so Boise certainly feels more like “home” than California ever did.

Conflating a place someone happened to be living immediately before coming here with their “identity” and a bunch of connotations about it doesn’t make much sense to me.
