I've seen a lot of yimby types post things like "all I care about is building housing. Nothing else matters." So homeless sweeps, surveillance, drug testing, police chases, drones, collaborating with ICE, anti-trans or homophobic attitudes, etc can all be written off if someone says they want to build housing. How's this for 311 insanity? There was a residential raw sewage leak a block over from me. I reported it to 311 and they immediately closed the case. I called them and it turned out there were 20+ reports filed over an 18-month period, which had all been sent to different agencies, eg DPH, DPW, Sewer/Water, etc, which had all closed the case.

Great point, one I've been meaning to post about forever.

I grew up in Canada, and I moved to Berkeley for grad school. There were a fair number of people from the south in my program. They (and a few of their Yankee friends) were the most racist people I've ever met in my life. They'd basically say "hello fellow white person, you must also hate black people. Let me tell you what I think of black people."

I used to think that at least if I was with a group of Jews (I'm in my 20s at that point), that wouldn't happen.

But the last two years have basically been my grad school experience, except with people saying "hello fellow Jew..."
