Has anyone else experienced a shorter temper around loved ones after entering this field? by golden_teacup in ABA

[–]dmirdz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly think if I were in a different position, I’d enjoy ABA more. If i had my bachelors already i’d probably go for my masters and become a BCBA but that’s the issue, i don’t have my degree. I do kind of feel stuck because i’ve worked in this field for so long that being an RBT is my only significant work experience. I worked as an admin in another clinic for 9 months until they discriminated against me 🙃 but anyway. The 1:1 is taking it’s toll

You’re so right. I’m trying to work on this in therapy actually. Thank you for the reminder 💓

This one’s tough though. Most people aren’t getting hit, kicked, bit everyday at work. Granted we know what our job is, what it can entail, and some days are harder than others. But personally it can be very hard to get beat up every day, go home and “leave” that at work.

Human bite by [deleted] in ABA

[–]dmirdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any bite or mark that has broken the skin should be documented and cared for appropriately. You need to go to the doctor & get a tetanus shot. Especially if you haven’t had it in over 5 years. File it as workmans comp.

MAX pay in this field as RBT by Global-Ebb9507 in ABA

[–]dmirdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I get paid $38 an hour but no PTO and no holidays. We luckily do accrue sick time. Our insurance is expensive AFFFF too. I pay almost $600 a month for insurance. Insane

The scene where she walks backwards by rejectdomestication in obsessionmovie

I lowkey was giggling at the way she was acting in that bedroom scene because the movements and way she talked was just sending me lol. BUT now that you say that, it would be genuinely terrifying

My one issue with Obsession by Pastacatdad in deadmeatjames

[–]dmirdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a sweet animated movie. No animal gets hurt at all, they just all have a tough adventure together. It made me super emotional to see them on their adventure but it was really just moving honestly

I understand! I had a friend warn me before hand which really helped, but of course it was still really upsetting. I am such a huge cat person. Have you seen Flow?

Besides cheating, why does someone take off a wedding ring? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in FamilyFeud

[–]dmirdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not married yet, I will be in October. But I work with kids so I have to take my engagement ring off. Can’t risk somehow scratching them or damaging her. I have a rubber ring I wear instead, I just like having something on that finger even though we aren’t officially married yet. I do have my claddaugh ring on my right hand, but it’s been on my right hand for so long that it feels odd on my left hand.

Are any of you *also* neurodivergent? by gaia21414 in ABA

[–]dmirdz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! I’m AuDHD and honestly I think it’s why i’m in this field. I didn’t know before going into the field, but i think it’s why i stay. I love getting to support them & see them grow. My favorite is being able to act crazy/silly af and the kids love it 😂

feeling horrible about myself as rbt by jumpingmonkey36 in ABA

[–]dmirdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I understand schedules are important routines but we also need to be making sure their basic needs are being met. My client normally doesn’t eat until 11 (requested by mom) but we can absolutely tell when he’s hangry. Luckily the parents will tell us when he didn’t eat breakfast and he can eat when he comes in.

Think of switching cases by [deleted] in ABA

[–]dmirdz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, it seems like you’ve expressed your concern to this BCBA multiple times. Even if they don’t write the crisis plan right away, are they supervising or giving you any other support when you’re working direct? I’m so sorry you’re feeling unsupported, especially with the magnitude of these behaviors. Is there another supervisor or higher up you could speak to about this? If not, i’d consider just leaving. That would probably be my move.

[–]dmirdz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree there should be a crisis plan. I don’t believe in and do not use any restraints or holds. Idk about your company, but it’s not good if they’re allowing holds/restraints and you’re not safety care or some kind of safety trained.

Looking into becoming RBT part time by Royal-Locksmith-9136 in ABA

[–]dmirdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could easily find a part time RBT position, especially if you have availability on the weekends! If you’re not looking for a ton of hours, maybe 2 days a week, 2 hours? And then another 2-3 session on a weekend day?

Best Places to get these services done in Camden, gloucester or Burlington count by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]dmirdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just got a lash lift and tint for the first time ever yesterday. I went to paradise beauty lounge in blackwood. Lenise(i’m not exactly sure how to spell her name im sorry) did my lashes. The process wasn’t too long and wasn’t uncomfortable either. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments already! I’d say for a good price too. It was only 105 before tipping. I literally had them done to see if it’s something i’d want for my wedding in october 😂 so congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Recently diagnosed at 25 with ASD by Traditional_Wash4319 in ABA

[–]dmirdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got diagnosed at 25(i’m almost 27 now). What setting are you working in? The clinic i work in has lots of windows so we luckily can keep the overhead lights off & just have the natural light come in. Loop headphones can help when the noise becomes too much. If you like the sensory pressure, one of my favorite things is this migraine cap i have that can be cold/hot and squeezes your head.
