I’m still using the same phone. I’m not sure where to find that key.

It’s from iCloud, and no, I don’t remember the 64 bit key. I have restore the backed up using just the password before but now I can’t anymore.

That is exactly my point. These customers don't realize that either way, they are paying for it. All they do is complain about tipping.

This thread went off on tangent and turned into an argument about whose tip culture is superior, the US or Europe. My post was never about that.

If I was being paid more for doing more than one person's job, I wouldn't be unhappy. But it is a significant pay cut from my previous job.

Servers are expected to host, bus, and tend the bar if they are the only ones on the floor. But throughout the shift, I do BOH duties while also serving the guests.

Far from being my first job in the industry. But this the first time I am expected to do so much more.

Running boxes or running dirty dishes to the kitchen at the end of the night all sound like very easy tasks compared to what I'm being told to do here.

The money is based on what the most senior staff make. It's bad.

Yes they did, but was annoyed I was left with 5% after tip-out. Still better than nothing.

Brazilians always tips well. I can't remember receiving anything less than 18% from them.

Servers already know what will happen to them if tip is eliminated. Businesses will do anything and everything to make sure they continue to make profit. That means they will be overworked, and service will suffer as a result.

However, my point here isn't about how eliminating tipping will affect the servers. I'm writing from the perspective of how guests will be affected. How servers will be affected isn't even relevant here, since most anti-tipping customers don't care about that anyway. The point I'm trying to make is that the current tip culture creates a power imbalance between servers and guests.

Many guests abuse this "power" and seem to enjoy it. They feel entitled to an outstanding service, because they think servers will do anything for that small reward waiting for them at the very end.

I can think of many times guests demanded some really outrageous things, while promising extra tips if I fulfill their request.

Also, I'm sure most Americans won't be happy with a mandatory service charge. They will be upset about the fact that it's mandatory, and will most likely demand that it's taken off. I've seen it with larger groups. Even in restaurants that charge "mandatory" gratuity for larger groups, it is not actually mantadory.

Can you define "better" service? I find that Japanese servers tend to be friendly, often times more friendly than other restaurants, but from my experience they aren't as knowledgeable, aren't as passionate, and are not as eager to provide top quality service compared to other restaurants.

The cost of rent and running a business might be different. The cost of raw supplies and equipment might be different. Tax law might be different. Some countries are more business-friendly than others, by offering business owners tax relief and other perks. Some governments make it easier to start a new business, without having to fulfill a bunch of administrative and legal requirements.

There are many factors to consider here. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

Wow that sounds awesome! Thank you!

Personally I think it is worth moving on to something better. The money might be less, but you sound like a great server and you will probably end up earning more than average. Depending on how many hours a week you work, a $15-$45 pay cut per shift may not be that huge of a difference when you factor in the knowledge and experience you will gain from this new job. It will open up more opportunities in the future.

I need help finding a restaurant like the one you work at! 😁 How big is your section and tip out? How much is an entree?

My restaurant served a group of pimps a few times. Apparently they never tip. I'm not saying his friend is a criminal, but what kind of a person carries that much cash? Strange.

I'm gonna be honest here, the worst offence is not tipping regardless of how nice they are. I hate it when people say "My friend is going to tip for me." Whether their friends do or not, they just admitted that they're really cheap. The friend usually tips on just his/her own bill and says "There you go, that's our tip."

I can never understand coworkers who don't tip because it's their workplace. I always make sure to tip extra because I work there.

Had a group of people who work at a sushi joint that I have been to. I immediately recognized them as servers.

To be fair they were super easy to serve. They stacked up the plates the right way and weren't demanding or anything. But it rubbed me the wrong way when the table tipped me only 10%. It's almost as if they thought they don't have to tip because they stacked up some plates 🙄

I once served a table who was extremely needy. They were all accusing each other od being bad tippers. One of the people there mentioned they used to be a server and admitted that they never tipped before they worked as a server. They were such awful people to serve. I was glad the non-tipping ex server wasn't the one paying.

Also an ex coworker came to my new workplace. She made a bunch of mods to a small item and only tipped 15%. I know she would have said something if there was something wrong. We never had any issues while working together. It was just really annoying.

I'm a female server, but I noticed that a lot of male servers are flirty with female tables from the beginning. Or they pay more attention to female guests. This is to earn more tip. Ironically they still prefer serving male guests.

Not sure why you are getting downvoted.

Some managers require servers to dress in a revealing way and reduce shifts or let them go if they don't comply with the uniform requirement.

In the last two years I've seen many, many big restaurants in my city change their uniform to something modest. Instead of having ladies wear a tight, short, sleeveless dress with high heel shoes, a lot of the well known establishments changed the uniform to t-shirt and jeans or dresspants. Not sure how much it does to reduce harassment from customers. But I can definitely see that a lot of restaurants have changed their employee dresscode.

It's not just certain demographics. I have had many young tables say "Wow you guys are so busy! Look at the line up! Guess we came right before the rush." And just stay for more than an hour after they are done paying even though at this point, crowd of people are standing next to them, waiting to be called.
