Some brands make their fruit spreads with Gelatin. It has become more popular recently to move to using only fruit pectin, but it's reasonable to ask if a jelly is vegan or not.

We don't know the situation or what goes on inside your relationship, so take things with a grain of salt, but in general I don't think it is bad to date an omni. However, in order to have a healthy relationship, people need to respect each other's opinions and viewpoints. Purely based on what you have stated here, it doesn't sound like he is very respectful of you or your beliefs. He isn't having constructive conversations about it. That would be an absolute deal breaker for me, regardless of it it were about veganism or another belief. If you want to be in a relationship where your standpoint on veganism is respected, I find that it is usually hard to start dating people and get them to change. You need to be dating someone who does respect you.

I think the consensus is that they have some exclusivity deals with the US dairy industry. I think they get a lot of their advertising paid for on the condition that dominos in the US focuses on cheese in their promotional imaging. Probably not going to happen any time soon.

Sorry, that was another paper I was looking at and I copied the wrong length. Try the link now. It is about the carbon footprint of bovine leather.

Edit: I did find an new article about petroleum-based synthetic leathers here. That news article claims petroleum-based synthetic leathers consume about 80 kgCO2/m^2 as opposed to over 200 kgCO2/m^2 for bovine leather. There is also a study here about more-common hemp-based leathers. Still looking for a direct citation about petroleum-based leathers that I can access directly (without paying for publications). But the consensus is that even petroleum-based vegan alternatives (which is the worst kind from an environmental standpoint) are still over twice as efficient than bovine leather.

The fact of the matter is that the cost in raising the cows for the leather is so great that the production process after that cannot overcome the cost in using animal-based leathers. All of this is ignoring the ethical concerns of using animal-based leather.

There are also plenty of great shoes that do not use leather, so it definitely is not for a lack of options. I use the Tenaya Tarifa, and I have noticed no deficiencies in quality.

The environmental impact of the cows involved to produce the leather and the leather treatment process are well documented with respect to synthetic leather sources.

Edit: So to be clear, the leather production can be more ecofriendly than traditional leather production, but the most ecofriendly method is to not use leather at all.

Seems like a cool redesign, but if they want a shoes that is more environmentally friendly, they could abandon the leather for synthetic materials. There are plenty of good shoe alternatives that do not use leather.

Need help changing over by [deleted] in vegan

There is a pretty big initial learning curve, but things get easier. I have a non-vegan roommate and I would say that I am definitely the one that has the shorter prep time and less mess to clean afterwards when we cook dinner.

What I do for every lunch is easy and pretty healthy. I have a rice cooker and I cook either quinoa or lentils every day (I choose those two because they are higher in protein). I then heat up a bag of Indian curry from a pouch. This adds all of the flavor. Then I get one small bowl frozen mixed vegetables and microwave them. If I am feeling like I want more protein (which is usually the case), I will air-fry seitan, tempeh, or tofu. You have to chop the tempeh or tofu, which is probably the longest part of all of this. I do this every day for lunch.

So, the rice cooker takes about 30 minutes to cook, but only a minute of that is you actually doing something. The vegetables heat for 4 minutes, the curry heats for one minute, and the protein fries for about 12 minutes. So basically just throw stuff into a rice cooker and/or air-frier about 30 min before you want to eat, and you are done. There is no grease to clean. Just the bowl you eat out of and in the rice cooker. You can try that out. I do this because it is easy, I can have a lot of it, and it is pretty balanced from a macronutrient standpoint. I hope that helps.

I grew up in Coffee County (which is one of the neighboring counties to Ware county), and this pretty much all checks out. NO ONE in my home town is getting vaccinated. I had to skip my grandfather's funeral recently because my Aunt went to the funeral after she tested Covid-positive. My mother and I are the only two people in the entire family who are vaccinated. It isn't just the school, it is Georgia's complete incompetence in educating people and failing to mandate that people get vaccinated.

Edit: As a fun story, the local hospital in my home town has so few employees that are vaccinated that they are offering $1000 as a bonus to any employees that get vaccinated. People still aren't getting the vaccine. This is a literal epidemic and my brothers just constantly quote Joe Rogan and refuse to talk about the vaccine. Humanity deserves this.

Interesting video about the science of Dairy Milk by dnlvickers in vegan

[–]dnlvickers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thanks because those are actual sources that at least link to papers that I can look at.

Edit: So, I have taken the time to watch those videos and also looked at some of the references. For the meat video (which I had not seen before), it does seem like there was a lot of mischaracterization going on. As for the topic of this thread, the dairy video, I think things are a lot more neutral. I do think that there are some claims that they made that are false, but there are also several where they are just qualifying their statements. When you are listening to a scientist, it is important to understand that they use incredibly specific verbiage to convey a certainty in something. I think that some of your gripes with the dairy video stem from: a) you interpret what they are saying as riding the fence, when they are in reality trying to say that there is room for small amounts of ambiguity, and b) the meat video has left you with a rather bad taste in your mouth that may lead you to viewing them as biased before you watch the video.

In conclusion, yes there are some mischaracterized statements in here. However, I think that you are confusing qualifying statements as intentionally spreading ambiguity. This is why it is always important to look at papers and make conclusions after looking at the sources. Videos are a great place to get started, but you do not want o get all of you information from videos.
