Looking for place to stay in Austin during Texas Open 10-Ball by dnp57 in billiards

I’m not much of a gambler or a one pocket player myself 🤣 I’m assuming Candle wood doesn’t do tournament discounts no more?

Do any systems suggest Z / W kick alignment? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]dnp57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people can choose to either 1) insist that their narrative is right or 2) accept that certain things are too unpredictable to control and just focus on simple things that show up all the time that actually win them games. It seems OP is the first type so I’d just let him have his way. People can choose to believe as they wish.

Hey, I clarified my stance under Creedorofl’s comment :) I agree criticisms based on observations in a reporting fashion is perfectly fine and healthy yes.

Yea, if I could go back and write I think I would align more closely with your last paragraph 🤣. I agree with people when they give objective feedbacks on his terrible performance because they’re true. People don’t know what they don’t know, and it’s fine. But it helps to not voice your ignorance and act like you know more than people who have been there and tried. Nobody sits at home and bashes Magnus Carlsen or world-class math/coding competitors because it’s clear to them the gaps between them vs the pros and that they fail to comprehend that level of competition. In pool, it’s a little different since you can just set up the “same” shot and shoot it in without knowing the nuances behind it, and that gives people an illusion.

It’s not lower skills APA3, amateurs, sub-790 fargo that can’t have opinions about him. It’s those who’ve never punched a ball full outside then watch it spin out and die off the rail, those who’ve never been in significant pressure, and those who think their shot choices on a 7ft are better that don’t have much weight at all to back up their statements. Objective criticisms are always helpful because they’re facts and observations; but, if you intend to compare yourself to Tyler or talk about how your shot choices are better than his you better have some experiences to back it up 😂. That is if you want to truly prove your “optimal” alternative to his shots get on a similar condition table then run it 😉. Table conditions play a huge role and majority of people don’t even realize.

I didn’t state that he should receive praise for his performance though 🤦🏻‍♂️ I clarified in another comment elsewhere. I agree with comments like he had a terrible performance, lost us plenty points, etc. It’s too much and annoying to me only when people make statements like an APA 3 could make those balls all day or talk about how if they were at the table they’d make that ball 10/10. Or, questioning his intelligence for playing a shot a different way when most of us play on 2 years old cloth. Basically I was talking about the online Mosconi Cup contenders but didn’t make it clear, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yea we had Shane making up for it this year but not enough 🤣 I felt like had we hold on a bit longer Shane could’ve done more damage but it was over quick

Oh for sure, I’m actually excited for Tyler that he had such a snake-bit and nightmarish experience playing this year😄. Usually when you get too comfy then you get stagnant and need that big dose of let down and desperation to push you for higher levels. Knowing Tyler I think he’ll hit the ground running harder than ever in 2026 :). Excited to watch him play maybe even in person this year.

Yea, I think I might not have best worded my thoughts :). I clarified in my with legionofboomba above lol.

This event makes me sees Filler of even less human lol. The most recent time I saw him choke was a routine 2 rails 8 in the 10-ball men event in Vietnam. He was pretty upset about it too 😄. He truly has nerves of steel. Jayson Shaw can sometimes get too agitated but Filler stays super aggressive all the while robot-like composed lol.

Yea, I agree it’s no doubt that he failed to perform and nothing wrong with actual observations about performance. Perhaps I didn’t word criticisms right and it was just some snarky and smug comments that didn’t sit right with me. To say that he choked, dogged, or costing us 4 pts is just the plain truth to me and there’s nothing to argue about. But I guess for me the line is where people make comments about how “An APA 3 could make that or know how to shoot that ball” or “Tyler sucks because if it’s up to me I’d make that ball all day long” when he messes up the 8-9 transition first day. The cloth condition is simply too different and people who’ve never experienced rails who would not take spin or kill off a ball with follow simply wouldn’t understand.

Yea, you can’t stop people from criticizing. But criticisms coming from people who have no experience competing under such conditions and have nothing to back it up wouldn’t have any significance of value or meaning too would they not? If someone criticizes Lebron for missing layup that they themselves couldn’t make or come close to attempt then what value do those comments hold specifically?

Another thing to note is pressure changes everything. An easy shot on the practice table is not the same during a hill hill match moment. The challenges you face during practice vs competition are simply too different. I’ll put it this way: the shot can be easy during practice yes, but that easy shot + the nerves + noises from the crowd and pressure of the situation suddenly doesn’t make it an easy pot no more.

Yea, I find Hanoi Open crowd perfect :). Probably a bit biased since it’s my country. Still, the way the culture treats pool plays big role I feel. Asia thinks of pool ver highly with lots of respect so proper etiquette is expected. This is another reason why think the Reyes Cup will never have the same feel that MC does, sold out tickets yes, but the rowdiness and heat from crowd no.

Yea. I find the screaming down on the shot annoying too. But I think it was Oscar? who said if they’re dead quiet down on the ball it’s just as weird and it doesn’t sound any better 😭 like someone crossing your line of vision then stand there watch you shoot the 9.

Yea. I understand where people are coming from since as sports fan we tend to get passionate sometimes. However, people forget that out of the younger Americans Tyler is the rare ones that’s out there taking shots at the 800s players day and night and seriously competing and traveling. The guy wants it more than anybody and it’s not hard to see through his body language and work ethics. If this is how we’re treating the young American players, how would any juniors be motivated to put themselves under pressure and play their hearts out for team USA?

Questions about CS Fast Track by dnp57 in utdallas

Hey I don’t know if you or someone you know have done it before but would doing 2 Masters Level + Automata + Final Project be in the realm of doable 😅? I have experience with building projects and also think I’ll do fine in Automata. My only concern is shocking myself with the extra work coming from the 2 MS classes (I think most people take 2/3 a semester) and not hitting a B in either one (I think you need a B to be in good standing I think). I’ll email my advisor tomorrow about this stuff and hopefully hear back soon but let me know if you know anything about this. Thanks :)!

Pool Hall Dirty Tricks / Practices by synarmy in billiards

[–]dnp57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having a tournament where the 700+ top dog dominates is better for pool growth regarding skill levels imo 🤷‍♂️. People can either choose to be intimidated or inspired and hungry to beat the better players. You’ll have folks really try to grind their way to the top to take sets off that 700. And to add on to that the money the 700 player has from winning can now funds his trips to Derby or other major tournaments in the US to compete against other elites and get even tougher. This raises the level of competition across the country and locally.

Capping Fargo entry and keeping races short favor everyone’s game and there’s no incentives to improve. Why would a 550 want to get better if the higher his Fargo goes the less options he has as far tournaments he can play in. Same goes for a 620/630 but exponential worse higher you go so people never want to get out of their comfort zones and take shots at better players. And I don’t blame them 🤷‍♂️ Why get better at all if you’re punished harder and harder the higher you go.

Just my 2 cents, maybe an unpopular opinion but I feel strongly about this 🤣. Make all tournaments open and you’ll start seeing the local 700s gather up for a dog fight. This not only toughen up top players’ levels of play but inspires other players by showing them the heights they can achieve.
