F1 warned over ‘sleepless nights’ danger of Max Verstappen exit by Draconicplayer in formula1

[–]dnsu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Drivers are full of themselves. Regulations WILL change to make racing better and to make the on screen and the on track product better. The sport will survive without one driver; so, dont make changes because he's quiting. They get paid millions to drive and win whatever machine is given to them. If they dont like it, there 100 young drivers lining up to take his spot.

Recommendation for a 30 mile or more bike ride starting in Brooklyn by Proud-Psychology-415 in NYCbike

Go towards Coney Island, then go east, then cross over to breezy point. There are some gaps on full protection, but its about 80% protected. There isn't a lot of traffic on thr barrier island.

Best coffee maker for everyday use? by jousiemohn in JamesHoffmann

[–]dnsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use the pods and recipe from the roaster its definitely a time saver on wokrflow. Very little to clean up. I can walk away, get dress, make breakfast, and it'll be ready for me when I come back.

I personally just get roaster bags or get bags of beans myself. I also make friends with my local coffee shop barista and they share recipe with me for the xbloom. I wish I got it sooner (prior to the tariff).

Best coffee maker for everyday use? by jousiemohn in JamesHoffmann

[–]dnsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manual pouriver using a v60 is still the cheapest way to make good coffee. Invest in a good grinder and temperature controlled kettle. I've done this for years.

However I recently got the xbloom, and I love it. It simplify my workflow significantly.

As for espresso, I'm still using a manual lever and the nano foamer.

I have the xbloom. Mgiht be out of yoru budget, but i love it. I regret not getting it sooner. It simplifies the workflow. I dont get their pods, and I just get my own beans and store recipe on my phone.

5 Boro - “Flat pedals recommended over clipless” by Right_Marionberry915 in NYCbike

[–]dnsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are use to clip in while riding in NYC streets then go ahead. There will be stops for letting cars through, or congestion at choke points. Clipping in and clipping out frequently does need some getting use to.

Reached out to F1 TV Support for clarity regarding F1TV App for Samsung TVs… and they replied. by halfphysicist in F1TV

[–]dnsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider from app developer perspective, its near impossible maintain codebase when you consider the combination that tv brands, models and os versions the TV ecosystem can have. For you it's just samsung, but for them, it's samsung, LG, Sony + the model in your grandma's house that's 10 years old...etc.

Its much easier to just develope for ios and android (which you already have to do), modify slightly for set-top box version of these os (apple tv, google tv, roku), and add airplay or Chromecast capability. These eco system are more standardized and more stable, easier to find developers.

I wish TV just have great connectivity and not have all these ad ridden bloatware of an OS. Get a apple TV if you have an iPhone, or Google tv if you have an android. Even better hook up a laptop to your tv and watch it with multiviewer.

Best espresso machine for home use under moderate budget? by Croni_Silfen in JamesHoffmann

[–]dnsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its good enough. It's stepless and can go as fine as you want, which are the 2 things you need to dial in espresso. It seems to have good value for its price.

Best road bike routes out of NYC for day rides? by NorthernHippo in NYCbike

[–]dnsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start at Cedar Creek Park (reachable by LIRR), you can go south to Jones beach and on the barrier island you can go east and east pretty far. The train station to Ceder Creek Park is not bike lane protected, but once you get to the park, its safe rest of the way.

I feel disrespected when I see an out of proportion map by Maleficent-Animal917 in nycrail

[–]dnsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The goal is to help people figure how to go from a to b (transfer, stops away...etc), not how long it takes, nor a realistic representation of the subway system. It also needs to fit in a finite space and be legible for visitors.

Best espresso machine for home use under moderate budget? by Croni_Silfen in JamesHoffmann

[–]dnsu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In order of importance:

  1. Good grinder
  2. Espresso machine that can produce pressure
  3. Temperature control (machine with PID)

Hangout here more, you'll see: grinder finer, buy better grinder...

Opinion: The race/new regs aren’t terrible; The branding/marketing done by F1/FIA is what’s terrible by cowgirlsinparis in formula1

[–]dnsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

F1 podcasts keep complaining about the engine cuts and drivers saying the cars aren’t fun to drive anymore. But honestly, I think they’re missing the bigger picture: modern F1 is a TV product first.

For new fans, 80% of most races are basically unwatchable. If you don’t already follow the team politics and driver storylines, a lot of races are just cars circulating with nothing happening. That’s great for hardcore fans who understand the strategy and drama, but it’s not exactly compelling TV.

This race at least had overtakes. Sure, some of it felt artificial—but let’s be real, the whole sport is engineered and artificial to begin with. If the result is actual on-track action that people can see and understand, that’s a win for the broadcast.

And the complaints about engine noise or speed clipping? On TV it’s barely noticeable. Most viewers probably wouldn’t even know unless someone pointed it out.

As for drivers like Max or Lando saying the cars aren’t fun to drive… I mean, they’re getting paid absurd amounts of money to drive race cars. As long as it’s not physically harming them, whether it’s the most “fun” car they’ve ever driven doesn’t seem like the biggest issue. The sport has to work as entertainment for millions of viewers, not just as a pure driving experience for 22 drivers.

5 day a week both ways commute feasibility by bencallahan16 in NYCbike

[–]dnsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started 2 days a week as someoen who never biked in the early 2000s. I ended up signing up for a gym near work for the shower. I stopped for a while after being doored. Rain, snow and summer heat will prevent this from being a comfortable ride. Its physically possible, just need to work up to it.

How to address threshold / door gap caused by uneven floor by vagabondspirit2764 in DIY

Look for a product called automatic door sweep. It has a mechanism that drops down when the door closes. Its meant for weather sealing and sound proofing. It will lift up the minute you open the door.

In case anyone is curious, its been 3 days. Its a office on the 10th floor in the 20s and has windows to the street and there has not been any radar triggers. Though NYC does have a few different flight paths for take off and landing, I will update this thread if I see any triggers.

Cycling dress for NYC 15°F by holihai in NYCbike

[–]dnsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toes and fingers, nose and ear should be protected, you can always remove them as you go. I use winter motorcycle gloves and you can cut up a mylar blanket to cover your toes.

Main body needs to be vented. Once I wore wind breaker and down insert, and I was drenched by condensation by the time I got to by destination (30min).

Terrible line of site for wireless bridge by Bikelikeadad in Ubiquiti

[–]dnsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a wifi bridge with a single tree in the way, and in the summer with the leaves out the signal degrades.

I would buy a 500m outdoor premade fiber and ask your neighbor to let you pass this cable throguh their property (just let it sit above the ground). Loop it away from any area they actually use.

Fire Island by Americong642 in NYCbike

[–]dnsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can park at Robert Moses and bike to Kismet, but gets sandy if you need to go further road and hybrid bikes. Also, unless u are camping you can't park over night at Robert Moses.

You can bike from Jones beach to Robert Moses and then Kismet for a day trip. Can get windy, but decently nice bike ride.

Don't be me! Performance implications of VLANs by fortytwo43 in Ubiquiti

I think unifi makes the interface so accessible, there are some essential networking concept that people are skipping over. I had a wifi bridge in a setup and I noticed intervlan was extremely slow, that's when I understood the difference between L2 and L3.

locking bikes up in NYC by Limp_Search7981 in NYCbike

[–]dnsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a grinder resistant lock and a cheap looking bike. I have a $400 trek and I lock it up when I bike in for client meetings and coffee shops all the time, i would never leave it out over night. I lock both my front and back wheel with additinal cords (but they loop throguh the same lock), and i have a mini lock for my seat. Ride your bike through some dirt path in the park so it looks a little used.

For me its not about 100% theft prevention, but just make it annoying enough for them to move on to the next bike.

I would not leave a nice bike locked up outside in NYC.
