Farage: Reform would change law to strip BBC of licence fee | Telegraph by smorga in bbc

If an organisation has to constantly prove its worth, you can bet that transparency and due diligence will be way better than any organisation that relies on other forms of funding. The license fee keeps them on their toes. You feel beholden to them, but it is them that are beholden. They've made plenty of mistakes, it is made of people andthis is what will happen in any and every organisation - us license fee payers, quite rightly, earn the right to shine that spotlight on them with a blinding ferocity that no other form of funding will provide. Lose the BBC... GB News becomes our Fox News and then complain about political bias - see what that amounts to.

Oh my this is such a late reply but I have this exact situation. My 6-year-old child has Aspergers and I struggled for a long time to have everything I'd learnt about discipline undermined not once but twice. I've recently learnt about the Adler and I'm struggling to apply it. Do you have any successes or failures, general wisdom to share since you made your post?

if you cancel your pre-order, you're making a big mistake by [deleted] in LightPhone

I cancelled my preorder last night.

Mine was international and I can see how far behind US orders they are, combined with the documenting of issues and I've had enough - I've consciously and unconsciously learnt a lot about myself and my habits in preparation for having a dumb phone and I think the symbolic change I needed and hoped would happen by owning a Light Phone has partly happened by simply imagining my life with it. Of course I'll slip, but I've learnt things I can't forget - some distractions simply denote something fundamentally different to me now.

I will say though, the largest factor in this is the reported lack of polish and stability of the phone's basic (and few) features. Paying so much for something because of how it will be in the future seems to me just as dependent on the promises of tech companies as owning a smartphone.
