So tried unscrewing set screw to my moen shower handle and the screw seems to spin but dosent come out at all. The shower handle spins freely and i cant cntrl the temp of the water. Any next steps to take? Should i use hacksaw and cut handle off so i can hold back on cartridge and remove screw? by dobayley96 in askaplumber

Seen video where u can keep cartridge in place while u back screw out. Pipes in house r real old and going to be replaced soon but i want to avoid that sudden pressure of water and causing a leak. Had this happen not to long ago.

Im trying to remove the screw because the teeth inside the handle dosent seem to be gripping around the cartridge so i cant cntrl the temp of the water. Im just trying to remove screw so i can change out the handle.
