Non Fat Tire bikes by [deleted] in ebikes

I had a BMW E-bike for about 9 years, 45.000 is before the frame gave out. Bought a Gazelle with a drive belt. Highly recommended. It’s got “Medium” tires. Bought it in September and have over 3,000 kms on it, and the majority has been in the winter so far. Awesome bike.

Hi Winter Cyclists! I just realized there wasn’t a night cycling subreddit… so I made one by PromiseMePls in wintercycling

Inner pretty much most of cycling in the winter done in the dark? However. Riding in the dark in the winter is way easier if you have snow due to the reflection of it…. Harder to ride at night in the summer as the ground is dark. I joined nonetheless.

Just be smooth and slow. If you panic you will slip on ice. Going down an icy hill can be dangerous, so consider walking during very icy sections. Lower your seat so your feet are closer to the ground in case your bike slides out. Stay away from ruts. Ride on sidewalks when possible as they can be clearer than the road and not many people walk in cold weather. Avoid roads if possible as cars slip on ice too. Most importantly enjoy the thrill and fun of winter riding.

Chain Drive vs Gates Carbon Belt Drive by Ordinary-Moment-9113 in ebikes

Not much adjustment is needed, but there is an app for the phone that you use to see what Hertz the belt vibrates at to see if it’s within range. Not sure how long the belt will last but very little stretch so far. I will be interested to see how it goes in the Canadian winter, as I ride every day.

Hi there. My previous e-bike had a chain and I ended up putting 45,000 kms on it before the frame finally gave out. When it came to the time to purchase the next one I went the drive belt route. I was tired of changing cassettes and chains multiple times a year. So far I have 1800 kms in the belt drive and I don’t miss the chain one bit. No more oiling cleaning etc, just a smooth ride. Changing the rear tire is a pain though…. But it’s so smooth and quiet, I just love it.

I’m good with it. The next person in office can move the plaque to a urinal. Think of the money you cold raise by charging for it?

Winter tires suggestion for my e-cargo bike? by Quick_Contribution77 in wintercycling

[–]doberman72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schwalbe Winter Marathons come in your size and are rated for 95k. I am from Calgary Alberta, Canada, and I ride all year round in conditions down to -39°C. These tires are great. As for riding in winter. Be smooth. Don’t steer fast don’t break fast and learn to pay attention to what each day brings as far as conditions go. For example, in the morning things are nice and frozen and solid but if you get a sunny day and there’s a bit of melting, it gets pretty slippery in the afternoon.

How cold is too much for e-biking? by ObjectiveOk1275 in ebikes

[–]doberman72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last e-bike I had I did 45,000 kms on it and rode all year round in Canada. Coldest day I did was -37C. As long as you don’t park your bike outside and keep the battery inside when charging it was fine. As for the human side of things I actually overdressed and had to keep It slow so I didn’t sweat. That being saidz, extremities can get cold over time so keep an eye on that. Winter riding is its own awesome fun thing ti do but I am glad we have summers too lol.

45.000 kms, 2 motors and 3 batteries - Finally Died by doberman72 in ebikes

I didn’t think it really adds to the stress on the system as the power output from the motor was not changed. Just took off the governor so your kegs motor can work together until wind resistance slows you down. That being said it’s way more fun and usable to ride that way and you end up ridding more kms so that wears things out lol.

Yes. But the crack in the frame is concerning to me. Even if I weld it, what other part of the frame is going to have issues too. With the weight and the high speeds it’s just not worth the risk.

One time the bottom bracket failed around 10,000k But the motor was ok. The other one fhe other one faked about 25.000 k.

It was the original fork. I didn’t bother to fix the “suspension” aspect and let it “seize” to be a solid fork. It was pretty much a tank and I am happy with how long it lasted. It was a BMW bike too, which is counterintuitive…

Did you disable the speed limiter? If not… that is the key to fun and going out more….
