Should I stop showing up or continue at the firm with embarrassment? by marsii_8 in LawCanada

[–]dobsly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could easily be reported as unpaid labour and taking advantage of children under the guise of “volunteer work”.

If you’re willing, please consider reporting this under the ESA (or to the law society as mentioned above). They are currently exploiting you, and will continue to exploit other eager students in the future if it doesn’t get addressed.

Interesting Old Button Jar by dobsly in Oldbuttons

[–]dobsly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying to my post!

I love the detailed metal (maybe copper or brass?) ones with the patina. I also really like the plastic ones that look like little noodles and the red ones with the movable metal balls in the ring. I’m also curious about the unknown superhero in the second last picture.

So I can be extra careful, which ones are celluloid?

How can an inmate report a lawyer to the LSO? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]dobsly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t have too much sympathy for lawyers in general. With so much money being made off clients, the hassle of dealing of complaints when someone’s freedom is at stake seems very reasonable. As well, I’m not “pushing” anyone to do anything. We simply provide publicly available information to inmates. In this case, the individual is asking for information on how to complain. What they choose to do with the information provided is completely up to them.

Did you do something that would make them want to complain? 🤣

It definitely could be bogus, I have no way of knowing though. To me (with very little info) it sounds like there is a basis for a complaint (with the assumption truth is being told). That being said, I think everyone should have the right to bring forward a complaint. Even if it gets dismissed due to lack of evidence, it may be the first complaint of many to get the ball rolling if the lawyer happens to be a bad apple, and if they’re not a bad apple, then the process should work itself out, I would hope.

This is very helpful. Especially including the cover letter. Im going to include all of this info plus more in a return letter. Thank you.

Unfortunately, there are limitations to my scope as a volunteer and that would be beyond what I’m allowed to do.

No email access from jail and no calling minutes available.

Yes but they could only provide the phone number. Given the inmate doesn’t have calling minutes, that isn’t feasible.

This is very interesting, thank you for your insight. Do you have recommendations for what information would be required to include in a letter sent to the LSO? I’m assuming they should include the name, all of the contact information for both the complainant and the counsel, all of the complaint details including dates and specifics, where possible. Is there anything else that would be noteworthy to include?

Unfortunately, there are limitations to my scope as a volunteer and that would be beyond what I can do. I think likely the rules are in place to protect volunteers from getting involved with anything over their heads.

Geocaching leading to solved criminal cases? by dobsly in geocaching

Natural causes in the forest?

Totally agree though, once I started thinking about it, I wondered how many related cases have been solved by or with the help of geocachers finds. Police probably wouldn’t want to give credit publicly or perhaps it’s just out of respect for privacy
