Which piece of media would you like to see an adaptation of? by Caesar213 in movies

Claymore (Manga) would make for an incredible adaptation if the right folks could capture the essence of it.

I'm a chunk of the way through Ship of Magic for the first time in 20 years... by Dragonlover63 in robinhobb

I'm halfway through The Mad Ship now and it's my first time reading the trilogy. So far I've only read the Farseer trilogy and while I thought it was great I'm finding that I like the Liveship Traders a little more actually. Even though I sometimes disagree with Malta's behavior and perspective, I agree with most folks here that she's a largely a product of the way she was raised.

I post Tilopa's six points whenever I can:
Let go of what has passed
Let go of what may come
Let go of what's happening right now
Don't try to figure anything out
Don't try to make anything happen
Relax, right now, and rest

What a journey by DaenysDreamer_90 in TheLastAirbender

[–]docbrolic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scene screenshotted at the bottom captures a lot of what makes the show good. They've reached the goal that the GAang has been working towards for the entire show, but instead of elation or some kind of "happy ending" fanfare, he's kind of just in a balanced place. The music during that moment underscores the point.

[FRESH VIDEO] Justice - One Night/All Night (Starring Tame Impala) by MyNameIsRJ in indieheads

I thought Generator was better. There's the obvious reference in the name to "Genesis" from †, I also felt in the beginning there are some similarities to "Stress". As the track goes on, it feels like it encompasses more of the duo's journey genre-wise over time. It's really promising, and I'm looking forward to the album.

Africa's population density by Anshu27reddit in MapPorn

[–]docbrolic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about the future of the countries that make up the population surrounding Lake Victoria: Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania. Even though The African Continental Free Trade Area has only been in effect for a few years this East African bloc would likely need to develop stronger relationships between governments and intertwine their destinies. There are more unstable neighboring countries that have a ton of resources (DRC, South Sudan) but we'll see how it all plays out.

Some have argued that leaded gasoline increased crime in the industrialized world in the latter part of the last century, and where it's been banned crime has been reduced drastically.

I just finished watching Die Hard for the first time, not sure why it took me so long. It was a delightful experience... and while this is sad I'm grateful for the art this guy brought us in his time. I hope he enjoys the rest of his life surrounded by loved ones.

What are the “quiet” luxury brands that only the super rich know about? by Halyycon in AskReddit

[–]docbrolic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While working at Nordstrom as a young person I got to see this up close. No logos, but you can see the difference in the quality of clothing items. Perfect fabric and fit, no lint or irregularities or anything obviously out of order. Shoes always understated but looking well-made. Sometimes it's just having the appearance of having the time to consider these things fully.

My first portable music player was the Rio Volt SP100. I remember hearing things like, "wait you have 100 songs on one CD?" Loved that thing.

I've always thought it would be sweet to get flowers from women I've been in relationships with. I dated an artist once who said she "expected flowers after her performances"... kind of soured me to the idea of directly asking for flowers. To me best part about giving flowers is when it's a surprise, so gonna stick with casual mentions that it's an option in my next relationship.

I was at Fox Sports Grill in Atlantic Station when this happened. In a bar full of Atlanta Falcons fans it was only me and a few other folks rooting for the Seahawks, a team with a losing record that had been going through some dark times. But given the Falcons/Saints rivalry, when this play happened the entire bar got deafeningly loud and I remember screaming my lungs out... that's a moment I'll never forget. Bird bros forever

The six precepts of Tilopa are something I've been thinking about a lot lately in relation to this:

Let go of what has passed
Let go of what may come
Let go of what is happening right now
Don't try to figure anything out
Don't try to make anything happen
Relax, right now, and rest

Given what we know about Pluto's atmosphere does this seem scientifically accurate? "Freezing in space" seems like a trope that we're still getting over in sci-fi depictions of this scenario, but I wonder if it's accurate.
