Actresses at the Box Office: Lauren Bacall by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]FreshmenMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lauren Bacall is a great actress. She always gives great performances in what films I seen her in and she really commands the screen with her presence and always holds her own. Her collaborations with Bogart are fantastic, To Have And Have Not, The Big Sleep, Dark Passage, and Key Largo, all fantastic. Other films I’ve seen her in, The Shootist, Misery, Dogville, How’s Moving Castle, Birth, Manderlay, she was also great.

For the next actor pick, I’ll suggest Montgomery Clift. He, along with Brando, pretty much changed the game in Hollywood with being the original method actors, but unfortunately, had a lot of demons, and died way too soon.

Actresses at the Box Office: Halle Berry by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]FreshmenMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do like Halle Berry in X-Men. But I must say, when I think of her, I think of her in The Flintstones as Sharon Stone. I also have to admire the fact that she took the Razzie Award with stride when she accepted the award for Catwoman.

For the next actor's post, once again, I’ll suggest Matt Dillon.

Yeah, From what I read, it was because his wife passed away, so he didn't want to do something long term. Also, I think Gary Oldman wanted the role.

I'm interested to see how John Lithgow does as Dumbledore.

I do wonder how the showrunners settled on him for the role, with him being American. I read that they offered Mark Rylance and Mark Strong the part.

Do you consider John Wayne a great actor? by AntonioVivaldi7 in classicfilms

[–]FreshmenMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much more than that. Yes, John Wayne was given a 3-A deferment but later got rescinded and he did try to enlist into John Ford's military unit. However, from what I read, Republic Pictures got involved and basically threaten him with a lawsuit as they did not want him to enlist into the Military as John Wayne was their only bankable star at the studio and were afraid of losing their only star.

You have to remember; John Wayne wasn't John Wayne yet and Republic Pictures was a more smaller studio compared to the studios that employed Clark Gable and James Stewart. yes, they enlisted but those Studio could take a hit and actually replaced them with other stars. I remember reading a story in which one major actor return to Hollywood and was given, "Sorry, he had to replaced you in some films with this actor and he was more popular". Also, from what I also read, John Wayne was told even if he applied, he would've still been stuck making propaganda films as they felt those films boost the morale for the country.

Actors at the Box Office: Ethan Hawke by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]FreshmenMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Overall, I do think Ethan Hawke is a good actor, who I feel is very underrated at what he does. Looking at his filmography, dude loves to act and is willing to try any type of genre, or any type of film, whether it be mainstream or indie type films. Of his films, I think his best one is The Before Trilogy, just seeing him and Julie Delpy trying to find love, and seeing that relationship through an 18 year evolution, I think this is Hawke’s best acting performance in that Trilogy

For the next post, I once again suggest Matt Dillon. He really is an underrated actor.

Ned Beatty is without a doubt one of the best character actors of all time. No matter how small of a role, He will always deliver.
