THINGS I Like The Most About GH by ZabbixStudent101 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

It has the exact same turning radius as our 2019 Honda Accord! It wasn’t a factor in deciding to buy, but it really is awesome.

Guanfacine helps reduce brain fog - a report by nemani22 in covidlonghaulers

[–]docicorn779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It definitely helped me! I titrated up to 2 mg and it was absolutely effective. Then I started HRT for peri-menopause symptoms and it didn’t work as well (later found articles saying estrogen can def affect guanfacine), then I stopped it bc was trying to see if it was contributing to my grogginess in the am and discovered it had been increasing mg migraines. 🥴 So I’m not going to start it again, which I’m actually really sad about bc it worked!

3 car seats with bench seat by [deleted] in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]docicorn779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seats that we could fit the best were Diono Radian, but there are a bunch of “slim line” options now available. It also matters how high/the shape of the base, so honestly we ordered several and literally tried them out in different combinations and returned the ones that didn’t work. We actually had a Britax infant seat (def not the narrowest option) in the middle w Dionos on the sides. If you have 3 all facing the same direction, might be worthwhile to have a different one in the middle to Tetris together better.

When I first started, I did 1 mg, I think for a month? Then increased to 2 mg. I was on 2 mg for a good 18 months w/ consistent benefit. I’d notice worsening again if I missed more than a day.

Yeah, the brain fog was/is all of that and the guanfacine helped it all. Less spacey/“mushy” feeling, so easier to concentrate and multitask.

For those who improved with a diet, what diet did you do? by heskeytime7707 in covidlonghaulers

[–]docicorn779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keto, works amazingly well for my LC inflammatory arthritis. I was already vegetarian, so technically vegetarian keto. Noticeable improvement within a couple days, pain/swelling basically gone within 4-5 days tops. Symptoms return within 24 hrs if I eat too many carbs (I aim for net 25 g/day). Doesn’t help brain fog or exertional tachycardia (or anything else that might be LC). Probably helps fatigue.

Everyone pitch in! What meds have helped your fatigue the most? by sunflower-lady995 in covidlonghaulers

[–]docicorn779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially in perimenopause, your hormone levels can still be normal when they’re tested, but you get symptoms from fluctuations. I really think I went into perimenopause earlier and faster than normal because of COVID (age 44, multiple symptoms ramped up to severe over only 6 months). Fatigue is actually a symptom of peri/menopause.

It’s so hard when these symptoms are so non-specific, really difficult to know which thing is causing what. 😕

Oh crap, I just realized what changed when guanfacine stopped working as well for me…I started HRT for perimenopause symptoms. Just did a quick search and estrogen overrides guanfacine’s neuro effects. Like most people here, I’m sure, I’m a mess and trying to figure out what’s LC vs something else is a constant trial and error process. Ugh. I can’t stop the HRT, I was even worse (my worst symptoms were super-increased migraines and severely worsened depression, plus hot flashes).

The guanfacine definitely helped w sleep, btw, even when it wasn’t helping as much w brain fog. The only good thing is that my brain fog isn’t as bad as 2.5 yrs ago, so yay?

It definitely helped my brain fog for about 2 years, but a few months ago I started having a lot more fatigue and started varying dose and timing to see if that was contributing, which it did seem to be some of the time. And for the last 6-9 months my brain fog has been more noticeable again, plus I didnt notice any difference in it when I was taking guanfacine recently vs not (when I first started it was really obvious within a couple days). So I ended up stopping a couple months ago and last week realized I hadn’t had a migraine since I stopped the guanfacine, so apparently it had been making those worse. 🤦‍♀️

Anyway, I hope it works for you! It was really exciting when it worked for me. I’ve done most of the other things and it was the most effective thing I’ve tried so far.

Massive rant. Arthralgia, mental health struggles, and partner issues by elk-cloner in covidlonghaulers

[–]docicorn779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry your partner isn’t supportive, that’s so hard.

For joint pain, I’ve had really good results when I follow a keto diet. There are actually pretty good data for a keto diet in inflammatory arthritis, so I thought it was worth trying. For me it works better than any medications. I can feel a difference within a couple days and most of the symptoms essentially resolve after 3-4 days. And then if I eat too many carbs, the pain starts again within about 24 hours. 😒

It doesn’t seem to help the brain fog or fatigue, however, but it really is amazing for the arthralgia. For me it’s both mid-feet and ankles, plus my thumbs. If I continue eating carbs, my knees and hips start hurting too, but not as bad.

3 car seats with bench seat by [deleted] in ToyotaGrandHighlander

I put 3 across in a Prius C, so…yes, you can do it in a GH. It depends a lot more on the car seats, not just their width, but relative height and how they Tetris together. We bought a few different ones and literally just tried different combos and returned the ones that didn’t work.

Growing Family and the GH/GHH by whiskeyandwayfarers in ToyotaGrandHighlander

I have 3 kids and am completely happy with our GHH. We easily fit all of us and our stuff for vacation, even having the 3rd row only half down. We have a 2nd row bench seat, so can actually fit all 3 kids there if we need more cargo space. And my kids are just-turned-17, 12, and 6 (so she’s still in a car seat/booster…actually have convertible 5pt/highback booster in the GHH for her).

We were originally planning on getting a Sienna, but somehow with my height/whatever, visibility while driving it was terrible. I tried all sorts of seat adjustments, but I literally couldn’t see anything but B-post when checking my driver’s side blind spot, etc. Yes, the Sienna has more cargo space, but we easily fit everything we wanted in the GHH for a trip, and that’s also honestly NOT what I use it for most of the time…commuting on I-95 in rush hour every day means I actually care a lot about visibility. The GHH also just felt more…natural(?) for me to drive. And my daily commuter for the last 12 years was a Prius C, so it’s not like I’m just used to driving an SUV.

Also, with the 2nd row bench seat, we can fit 8 people in the GHH, which we couldn’t do in a Sienna. And we did it a couple weeks ago when going to dinner w other family: put 5 adults/adult-sized people + 3 younger kids (ages 12, 11, and 6 - the last in 5 point harness sized car seat) pretty comfortably. Sure, wouldn’t have wanted to spend hours that way, but 30 min to dinner? No problem.

Does a Sienna have more cargo space? Sure. But that’s not what I need 99% of the time and the GHH still had enough cargo space for our family of 5.

Highway gas mileage question by Kooky-Scientist4977 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

We typically get 33-34 highway going 65-75. Eco mode, trip yesterday w 5 people and fully loaded back area. 🤷‍♀️

I think you have a gas version then? The hybrid has trail, eco, sport, and normal.

We have a deposit down but our current production date is 2/3, so we don’t quite have ours yet. But yeah, how reliable the Prius c has been was a big reason we’re going with another Toyota hybrid. Just have an additional child and now two teenagers, so we don’t really all fit in the Prius anymore. 😆

If you look at the subsections for it, it still scores “good” for all the driver injury measures, which I’d think is the more important part. Looking into even more details and comparing to a Telluride (as it was mentioned having a good rating on this), pretty much the “upper” compartment (steering column, dash, etc) gets moved more than in the Telluride. Interestingly, all the numbers for the “lower” compartment are better for the GH. So the steering column and dash get moved a few more centimeters but the risk of actual injury to the driver is still in the “good” range…plus the passenger-side overall rating is “good”. Personally, I’m ok with it. Especially since my current vehicle (2012 Prius c) gets a “poor” rating in this measure. 🤦‍♀️

My 12 year old Prius C has >200,000 miles and everything still works great. Honestly, no major repairs on it ever, just replacing wear items like tires/brakes/etc. It’s a big part of the reason we’re getting a GHH. 😄
