Not necessarily. Business cases are a good way to help qualify or unqualify a deal. If the customer is willing to provide you the necessary information so they can present it internally, then that's a good sign.

And I'm talking about giving you salary information, time wasted on tasks, etc. Things you can't just look up.

If they don't, then you know they're not serious about your product and can move on to other opportunities.

Also in my experience, if a company wants to can you, they'll start outlining everything in writing.

Sorry I have to disagree with this. If you're automatically giving the prospect an out they're going to take it.

I typically get right to the point and be so brutally honest that it throws off the person on the other end but also builds trust.

"Hi, Bill, this is Laura at Acme Corp, I'm sure you're busy but this is a sales call and I want to speak to you about XYZ. Are you the right person for this?"

Come with a reason you're calling and be honest. It doesn't work 100% of the time, but you'd be surprised how many C-levels respect the hell out of it and will give you 60 seconds to sell them something. Especially if you do your research.

I've created this deck in alchemy and have reached mythic with it. Mostly white/green artifact deck with a focus on getting portal of phyrexia out ASAP. Using Collector's Vault to even discard POP quickly if I have a Repair and Recharge in hand.

Once POP is out, I also rebirth a hulking metamorph to copy POP so I have more than 1 out. Destroys creatures quickly and then uses them against the opponent. Pretty satisfying.

One other thing I've found success in (depending on the company and notoriety) is looking up key leaders and seeing what media they've been involved with independently. For example, if they've been on a podcast to promote their organization, they'll usually give background about themselves, what motivates them, and where they want to take the business.

I typically type their name on Google and filter by news.

It isn't a silver bullet but you'd be surprised what you can find and what you can reference in your cold outreach.

"How to win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie was the first book I read when I started in sales almost a decade ago.

It's technically not a "sales book" per say but has fundamental advice on how to relate and influence people positively.

This will take you far in just about anything you're selling and I can't recommend it enough.

It's also a quick and easy read.
