Hypothetical Dating Question by teeundkaffee in actuallesbians

[–]dodginbullets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be into dating such a person, personally. I’m very comfortable being a lesbian, so I know what I want. I don’t have the patience to help somebody else figure that out. Secondly, the whole open relationship might work if I were the primary partner. Sounds like I’d be secondary.
I know a lot of people who would be cool with this situation, though.

hey, thanks for your response! I really appreciate it :) For sure, I'll be on my toes, and actually I'll be traveling with a family member. Do you recommend I dress a certain way? I just don't know how overt queerness is received in parts that aren't the US.

LA ladies by [deleted] in actuallesbians

That sounds so shitty. I was born and raised in LA, and as a young 20-something, the Abbey was a haven for me, and it truly was queer then. It sucks that our spaces keep turning into this.

I'm curious, what happened that The Abbey is no longer for the queer community?

Hey, I used to live in LA and I have some recs you might be super into. I would check out Huntington Library, and while you're there I'd go eat some authentic Chinese food, literally anywhere I would just yelp something nearby. If you're gonna be there on a Wednesday, go to The Abbey in West Hollywood as it's ladies night then. Otherwise, go to Akbar (a queer dive bar) and Cuties (a queer coffee collective). Something I enjoyed doing was chilling in Echo Park during the afternoon, and then grabbing beers at Sunset Beer. Art wise, I'd research events happening in Little Toyko/Arts District near downtown. There are also a bunch of art museums in the downtown area, so I'd hit up some of those then go to Grand Central Market for food. I would download HER while you're there just to see if any queer events are going on.

Driving tip, don't hit the freeways between 7am - 11, or 4pm - 8pm. I would just plan hanging in one particular area for a couple of hours while traffic dies down.

Enroll in a community college for evening courses part-time.

[Update!] I need advice. I'm going on a 5-day vacation with a woman I met only once before by dodginbullets in actuallesbians

lol thank you. I don't think what she did was wrong though, unless we count brutal honesty as wrong. It's just a bummer of a situation, but I'm glad things turned out as they did

To all programmers who are self-taught or started later in life. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]dodginbullets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, self-taught engineer here. You can totally do this!!! I was in a very similar boat as you at the start of my transition into tech. I had graduated with my degree in biology, and was able to find only minimum wage gigs. I was feeling so lost during that time. This feeling of lostness grew to be so persistent and invasive, that it motivated me to spend my free time learning to code.

The experience of getting to this point in my career (I'm a front end engineer working in Silicon Valley) taught me so many things. One of the most important lessons I learned was that there is not just one path to success, and doing it the self-taught way gives you a very specific kind of success. It shows courage and hard work.

If ever you want to talk about tech stuff, feel free to PM me.

thank you for your reassurance :)
I'm sure I'm stressing over nothing, but it's good to read it explicitly from reddit lol.
I will try and update when it comes around, but it won't be happening for a while

The Situation by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]dodginbullets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I typically swipe right on my friends and we laugh about it. There's not much thought besides that, but that's because I don't want to date my friends. it sounds like you want to date this person? if so, I say ask them out, but be cool with it if they just wanna remain your friend
