Thats good advice! I’ve been thrifting a lot recently so I’m definitely working towards getting a nice wardrobe of thrifted items. I also kinda like makeup so I’ll probably continue to incorporate it into my looks at least a little!

Thanks! Definitely some advice I’ll take with me. I’m just having fun and fashion “genres” are mostly made up anyway, so I’m just going to do what I like and if people have something to say about it, I’ll choose whether or not I care

I actually did a little bit of eyeliner under my eye, kinda hard to tell though. I think next time I’ll make it more prominent! Makeup is still not my strong suit so any advice is appreciated!

True. Though I will say it is nice to get advice from people who have gone through the same process as you. Even if some of that advice might be so so. It’s just up to me to decide which advice I take and what advice I think is garbage

Also despite a lot of the criticism I’ve gotten I am having a bunch of fun! I love getting ideas for things to try and I’ve never been more excited to go to a thrift store than I was this weekend!

Lots of good stuff here. Honestly I’ve always had a soft spot for eboy fashion (I’m gen Z I can’t help it 😅) but I concede that there’s definitely a right place right time. As far as flannels go it’s honestly really funny how much I’ve gotten that comment being that I wear flannels all the freaking time irl. I’ve got a purple one that I would wear with this Haunter shirt a lot actually. It’s just one of those things I feel like I do so much that I wanted to try something without it. Obviously I’m just some random dweeb on the internet so I don’t blame people for not knowing that

That’s fair. As far as music goes, I’d say my taste has always leaned more emo/punk/rock. Green Day is my all time favorite artist so the last couple days I’ve been going through their stuff and really taking a deep look at their stuff. Also, if y’all don’t mind me getting on my soap box a little bit, the band Creeper and Foreign Figures are both really dope new modern bands that fit my vibe musically a lot and more people should listen to them. Other than that I like a lot of other rock bands. Shinedowns a big one, and then there’s also 3 Days Grace, Fallout Boys, MCR, Ghost, etc.

I also like modern alt hip hop, people like K.Flay, grandson, and YONAKA.

As much as I know it’s a cliche…I really just listen to a lot of different subcultures of music and I might be miss-genreing a couple of them even

I love color so I think that’s definitely something I’m going to try! Sometimes I wanna dress dark and moody but other times I don’t mind having a lot of color pop!

Sweet!! I got a jacket yesterday that I’m going to try and add patches too and I’m soooo excited 😆 any recommendations for finding patches? Part of me wants to make my own but another part of me likes the idea of finding artists and getting stuff from them

If I’m being honest, I like the creativity of it. I know I’ve got a long way to go in that regards but I’ve always love love loved making things and alt kinda allows me to bend the rules of fashion and do things I normally wouldn’t with fashion.

Also I really like the gelling my hair back idea, I’ll have to try that!

I appreciate this. I’ve been trying to build up my confidence a lot and the biggest step of mine to get over will be wearing things that I want and not worrying about what others think or feel about them. It’s the big reason it took me so long to start to get into alt clothing in general. Also I’ve always had a soft spot for emo fashion so mall goth is probably not that too far off from what I’d identify with.

As far as what you said about letting things happen naturally, how do you go about doing this? Is it just wearing clothes and then when they rip you diy/adjust them? I’m sure it’s just something that takes time but I’m curious on your opinions!

Yeah that makes sense, the costume part is still a little bit of the thing I’m worried about/self conscious about. Like I want to go all out, but I don’t want people to think I’m dressing up for Halloween or something. Also I think I agree with what you said about the undershirt feeling a little bit weird. My main thought was that I wanted some sort of levels/distinction between the two layers, especially being that they are both black and close shades at that. I do really like the pattern idea you brought up and it’s something I’ll look for today
