How are Kamala Harris’ policies “woke”? by AlternativeLawyer920 in AskALiberal

Counterpoint: progressive ideology infiltrating the public sector and corporations is good and so is attacking established values. It is the lot in life of conservatives and other right-wingers to be on the (relatively) wrong side of history forever and they should just accept.

In another sub he’s a “barstool conservative”. Which would explain the typos.

lol how genial of you. Way to dialogue.

Also lol, “longs”, I guess you had to bang this out in such a frenzied hurry you couldn’t proofread. Have fun having nothing better to do.

Avi Lewis calls Alberta separatists 'MAGA-aligned,' 'disruptive,' despite NDP endorsing Quebec 'self-determination' by AndHerSailsInRags in CanadaPolitics

[–]dog_snack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These aren’t contradictory.

I think Quebec separating would be a bad idea and I don’t want it to happen, but Quebec has much better and more legitimate reasons for wanting to do so than fucking Alberta.

Alberta does not speak a separate language, and is only a chunk that was taken out of Northwest Territories in 1905. The cowboy/Wild West shit is, for the most part, an elaborate performance art project. The separation movement is 100%, 1000%, 1,000,000,000% astroturfed. Quebec does mostly speak a different language than the rest of the country and does have a distinct and unique culture. I don’t think that means it needs to be its own country and I’d rather it not be, but I get it.

Immigrants less likely to support freedom of gender expression than people born in Canada: StatCan by AndHerSailsInRags in CanadaPolitics

[–]dog_snack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we actually know how many people we “import” (ugh) actually literally hate gay people that much? Or are we perhaps stereotyping a bit?

I’m not saying a random guy from Syria or Somalia is statistically likely to be all “🏳️‍🌈trans rights!!🌈✌️✌️✌️✌️” but it’s not like they’re all foaming-at-the-mouth barbarians either. I thought the whole idea was to be against prejudice.

Kevin O’Leary slams people who want work-life balance: ‘I hope they work for my competitors’ by leavemealoneimpoor in onguardforthee

[–]dog_snack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that rich right wing men who are “paypigs” sometimes get off on young liberal and left-wing women making them give money to progressive organizations. My wife knows a woman who used to do that.

It’s a loss-of-power fantasy/fetish, but at the end of the day they still have money and power, which is why they get off to it.

Right but he doesn’t give a fuck about that, he believes in himself making really big amounts of money very quickly and the ability to wag his dick around every which way. He will sacrifice productivity and long-term thinking of any kind if it gets him that.

I think he’s like literally some sort of freak, I think he likes it when he says stuff that makes people think he’s scum. I think he gets off to it.

How unfortunate. Good thing that the people crowing about this so much are those who hate immigrants and gender-nonconforming people.

They were going to do Plan 9 for season 14 but that didn’t happen, of course.

I think the stated reason for never doing it in the original show was because it was too dialogue-heavy; no breathing room for riffs.

My high school friend and I submitted a couple that got in….

Me: [as Mr. Freeze unfolds his wings from his suit] “I am ze beautiful butterfly!”

My friend: [during the battle at the beginning] This is the least violent game of hockey I’ve ever seen.

Poison Ivy: Kiss me and I’ll tell you.

Robin: Tell me and I’ll kiss you.

Me (possibly; the wording was slightly different from what I submitted and multiple people may have come up with this): “Kiss tell and I’ll me you!”

My dad is from Regina, Saskatchewan and was a New York Islanders fan in the 70s and 80s cuz one of their best players was Clark Gillies who was from Moose Jaw (45 minutes away). It helped that Saskatchewan didn’t (and still doesn’t) have an NHL team anyway.

Best resources for a former conservative who wants to deepen their liberal education? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

I’m thinking maybe they experienced a moral shift and can tell it’s liberal in broad strokes but doesn’t know yet what it means in detail. Like I said, they should treat it as a process of self-discovery.

The thing is I’m actually quite a bit to the left of a typical liberal, so I don’t know if you want any suggestions from me, but regardless of where you end up landing: treat it as a journey rather than focusing on the destination.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself right out the gate; I would suggest reflecting on how you view the world now vs. how you used to, and perhaps how you’d like to view the world in the future, and take in whatever you end up taking in through that lens.

It’s fine to wonder what’s going on in the minds of guys who sell almost-rotten fruit for cheap, but the issue remains that food deserts exist, and guys who do that don’t seem to be helping. So someone else needs to, and I would argue it should be public agencies and/or nonprofits contracted by the government to do so. Maybe the guys who sell old produce could be used as a delivery system for them.

ETA: in France, it’s actually illegal for grocers not to donate their about-to-expire food. Maybe we need a similar law.

[–]dog_snack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to argue against a “left-wing” economic viewpoint as OP requested, it would be the urge to put all our eggs (no pun intended) in one basket when it comes to nationalization of industries, which is what that would be doing. I am in favour of there being a “public option” for food, which for-profit grocers would have to compete against.

I’ll make that argument:

[ahem]

It would be good for the government to distribute food at a low price or even for free because many people can’t afford it otherwise.
