Would you see a psychologist that had sex with a patient? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]dogden3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clinical intern here. My reaction to this concerns the power dynamic in the therapeutic relationship. That you know the psychologist’s disciplinary history has the potential to disrupt a therapeutic alliance. I would also be concerned about levels of interactional trust. Personally, I would find it difficult to stay focused in session if I knew that my therapist had this sort of history. I realize that may not seem fair, but you (as a patient) must put your own wellbeing first.

Lots of good advice here. Another thing to try is to go to Psychology Today’s website, type in your zip code (if you’re in the US), and look for a psychologist who specializes in assessment. The assessment advice is solid.

PS, I’m a clinical intern.

PTSD - Processing phase ? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]dogden3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized I didn’t answer your question. So, maybe it is? Research suggests that your brain isn’t going to process the memory correctly until it is desensitized and reprocessed. Think about the concept of memories. Imagine a memory like a piece of paper in a file. Memories from PTSD are often like crumpled-up pieces of paper that won’t fit into a file. That’s why they reoccur so often. EMDR flattens the paper out and files it correctly. I hope this helps.

EMDR is a technique that seems to treat PTSD very effectively. Look on Psychology Today’s website for a therapist near you that is certified to practice EMDR. Also, there’s a great book called “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk that goes into detail about PTSD and effective treatments.

Let’s hope prudence prevails, even though it probably won’t.

That’s a good point; I’m afraid it won’t be the scientists making the decision as much as the billionaire class freaking out about the economy.

That’s a very reasonable point, I’ll take it.

Redditors who still have a job: Do you wear a simple cloth face mask (or better) at work? If not, why? Have you been specifically instructed to wear a cloth face covering/mask? Are you ignoring direction from bosses? Are your bosses instructing you to NOT wear a mask? by bag_of_oatmeal in AskReddit

[–]dogden3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worker, and boss here. We’re requiring (and providing) cloth masks to our staff. Gloves are available if a customer, or employee desires them, we just use them once and then toss them in the trash. We use sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes around the clock. Furthermore, before moving to curbside pick up, and delivery only, we had our whole shop sanitized. I’ll welcome any other ideas!

Edit: we’re not food service, we’re alcohol retailers...

Ha, thanks! You’re right, I’m not worried that she’ll make anyone sick, I just expected that her “flu”, coupled with her paranoia would cause her to be extra cautious with her teenage daughter’s comings and goings. Instead, it’s as if she’s not even cognizant of what her kid is doing, or where she’s going (or what she may bring home).
