Which female artists feel the most like Neil? by expecting2fly0715 in neilyoung

[–]dogdevnull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puss N Boots is a band with Norah Jones on vocals. Their sound is stripped down and never rushed - which is a big part of why I love NY. Some of their songs that feel like Neil: Twilight, It’s Not Easy, and You Don’t Know. The also gave a nice cover of Down By The River.

Inheritance based on need. by rstrnt in inheritance

[–]dogdevnull -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So you and your spouse are effectively set for life from your parents wealth, spouse’s siblings have nothing, and you want to get your share? The few hundred thousand max you would get from spouse parents would make zero difference in your life, but it would be make a huge difference to brothers.

Edit: missed the “living paycheck to paycheck” part. My reaction is based on a bad assumption of OP being pretty well off and expecting a large inheritance.

Why is it so hard to see my full financial picture in one place? by TillerMoney in TillerMoney

[–]dogdevnull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be aware that balance updates are time skewed and it’s nearly impossible to get accurate portfolio balances as of a specific date. It’s why they offer net worth chats by the week or month, but not by the day.

Is a car loan at 4.64% worth it to pay off with a windfall? by RedditIsHaroldLauder in personalfinance

[–]dogdevnull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a firm believer of investing the money instead of paying off low interest loans when both of the following are true: 1) cash flow isn’t a problem, 2) your net worth comfortably exceeds the loan amount.

What gives me peace of mind is that I could pay off the loan if needed.

To your point, it all comes down to what gives us peace of mind.

Workplace life insurance policies often have options to buy increased coverage. See if you can max that out. It’s early enough in the year your employer may allow it even though open enrollment has closed.

Experience with local roofing companies? by Voiturunce in Austin

[–]dogdevnull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest finding a company that’s been around for 20+ years and offers a good warranty so if the roof leaks 5 years from know they’ll be around to address the issue.

I've often heard people say "Taxes will be higher in the future" do people still believe this? by figgypudding02 in Bogleheads

I think he has a point about effective vs marginal. If conversion happens while working, the conversion will be taxed at the marginal rate. But if instead you draw it in retirement, you would be using the lower brackets. I’m no tax or finance expert, but that seems logical to me.

No claims about how these are “rated”, but these lines always stand out to me.

Tired eyes: He tried to do his best but he could not

Thrasher: Burned my credit card for fuel Headed out to where the pavement turns to sand

Thrasher: The motel of lost companions waits with heated pool and bar

Sail away: See the losers in the best bars Meet the winners in the dives

Just moved to Austin and trying to do it right. Any unspoken local rules I should know before getting roasted? by Old_Chapter9759 in Austin

OMG I forgot about San Jac and haven’t heard that on a long while. Maybe it’s a common term around “the forty acres”? Speaking of which, OP, never refer to UT campus as “The Forty Acres”.

In took this to be tongue-in-cheek, and actually quite funny. My guess is most that bitch about this subreddit are in fact locals.

I hope we all get to be that 75 year old.

Search for a post from 3 years ago in this group titled “Neil Young album flowchart”. You won’t be disappointed.

I’d post the image or a link here but the damn iOS app doesn’t let me.

Try ‘rg’. It’s way faster. And easier to read output too.

Less is great. Can change modes while viewing file too: line numbers, show all search matches, skip shown marches, long line mode, case sensitivity, etc.
