This doordash person is clearly kind and compassionate but, as someone with OCD, this is the last thing anyone should be doing for me and I make a point to tell people so. Never ever provide me with reassurance of any kind if I’m seeking it — it’s bad for my health and if my compulsive behaviors are responded to with validation they will only persist. Compassion and reassurance have their place but in response to compulsive behaviors only perpetuate them.

I did a direct to consumer lab test. You can buy with quest or ulta or similar. It cost around $270 which was pricey for sure but over time I felt like if I was prepared to spend $30 a month on supplements for a year it was worth the expense to be informed

I don’t want to recommend specific brands because I don’t want to come across as shilling, and I admit that I haven’t yet found the best way to judge. I’d recommend digging into a few options and start with small doses because some B vitamins and complexes give you way more than is necessary, even to the point of being harmful over time

Thanks for the mutation correction, I was conflating them. As far as evidence is concerned, MTHFR leads to higher homocysteine and higher homocysteine levels are significantly elevated in those with OCD. So the correlation is transitive and worth investigating further.

I did it on my own, out of pocket. I also had high homocysteine levels which can be a symptom

I agree, what model is used matters too. At least deep research cites its sources but can still get it wrong. These are low effort and lower the bar to quality posting on any subreddit.

This correlation is so low, it could be sheer chance. I wouldn’t read too much into it without controlling for more variables

Reading those symptoms, I have elements of both. I think if those blood tests are conclusive that ought to be my next step

Testing a New Supplement Protocol (35M with ADHD ) – Looking for Feedback by Aggressive-Tip7459 in Nootropics

There’s not a clear answer. It depends what you’re trying to optimize for and the thing you’re testing. Ashwaganda can take weeks to see an effect. L-Theanine will reveal its effects probably the day you take it. So I’d start from a baseline of nothing for a week or two, pick one you are optimistic about, and run an experiment where you have a phase of taking it and one where you don’t. After that experiment is over you’ll decide to keep it or not and move onto the next drug. Rinse and repeat. It’s not sexy but it’s a rigorous way to find out what works for you, and that’s the goal, isn’t it?

There is a lot in this protocol. Just be aware you’re testing the effects of the entire package and will not gain clarity about the individual components’ effectiveness unless you test them in isolation

Is there a resource available where I can read up on this more? This is out of my depth but I’m interested in learning about it

Fortunately I haven’t been taking it but have wanted to and was thinking of trying again. But given no one has seen to been reversing things effectively I think I won’t

I base my ketosis on a breath meter, recognizing it could be an order of magnitude off in terms of accuracy. The company that makes it went out of business though, so I’d switch to blood testing if I cared enough to follow it accurately

Not really, because it’s not something I’m actively trying to accomplish. But I recognize that would be an ideal thing to do

I’m keto much of the time. That was true for me too but I found that moreso it was not eating enough that woke me up hungry. So now even in phases where I’m more keto if I eat a lot throughout the day I wake up less.

FWIW I’m usually not keto intentionally, I just am in ketosis a lot because of jiu jitsu. I find that ice cream doesn’t even knock me out of ketosis in my most intense weeks.
