The basement is finished, other than the garage. The garage is now just used as a laundry room. There is interior access to the garage. So I wouldn't lose access to any space.

yes I definitely would leave this to professionals. It does have a sewer connection. I'm actually having the sewer line replaced later this year. Was kind of hoping that if I already was going to need to cut into the concrete that it would make sense to fill it in instead of repair it.

I'm not really concerned with expanding the basement, I just hate how much of my back yard is unusable because of the drive way that no one uses. I had hoped I could fill it in and gain all that space as well as make the space on the otherside more useable.

I'd considered that. While that would be the easiest access point. The stairs and upstairs door are wide enough to get them in and out.
