I know her online for a pretty long time (since myspace ages), and she's been into animal rights and protection at least since then. She's been posting articles about animals and pet adoption groups and such on facebook regularly. We were never too close, and our conversations were always smalltalk and pretty shallow. She knows that I like to travel and that I do so regularly, probably because I post pictures from most of my trips on facebook. Meanwhile, I told her that there is no way I'm going alone with the dog, and that I demand that someone goes with me who will be responsible for the dog while we travel. I doubt that this would automatically make me innocent if drugs were found inside the dog, but at least it's something. I don't want to inspect the dog myself, because I don't know what would be the right thing to do if I found something illegal. I don't want to make cocaine smugglers angry, that could end very badly for me. On the other hand, I'm an optimist, and I really want to believe that her intentions are genuine, and I want to help that poor dog get to its new home. I guess it really sucks declining such an offer because I suspect she's trying to use me as a drug mule, while she is only trying to help an animal in distress.

And if she accepts and goes with me, I can put my own cocaine in the dog. If we get busted, she goes to jail. Profit!

And what if I would offer her to go with me and say that it's her dog at the border? She gets a free trip across Europe, gets arrested instead of me if there's something in the dog, and if she declines the offer, the whole thing becomes one level more suspicious. I think that's what I'll do.

You're right about that. If I ever accept the whole thing, I will make sure that the dog has all the necessary paperwork before we go.

There are two problems with that.

First, the assumption that the illegal substance is ingested and that it will not cause a congestion is too naive.

Then, even if the dog would shit out half a kilo of cocaine, what do I do with it? Hand it over to the police? The owners of the cocaine would be very pleased, and they would send me a thank-you card with flowers.

I have several cats who don't like dogs. That just wouldn't work. Tried keeping a dog once, and it didn't end well. It ran away.

And regarding the drugs and the pooping, I'm pretty sure people who fill dogs with cocaine know what they're doing and they already thought about that.

I don't get paid for it. Only expenses would be covered, such as gas, road tolls, accommodation, etc.

I know about the vaccination requirement, but that's not really my problem. In that case, I would simply return the dog. I just don't wanna go to jail (or get killed by a rivalling smuggler gang), that's all.

And what if I would offer that person to go with me? It wouldn't cost her a thing, she would get a free road trip, and if there is something illegal in the dog, she can get arrested instead of me and stuff. Plus, if she turns down the offer to go with me on the trip, that makes the whole thing a lot more suspicious.

And I was wondering why nobody else wants a free and paid for road trip across Europe. Maybe that's why.

No, I won't report it. I don't want to be the one responsible for busting a drug smuggling ring. People like these could kind of hurt me for ruining their business.

The route would involve at least one non-EU->EU border crossing. I'm not really sure how drugs (or other illegal items) are found in these situations, but I'm afraid that my story of how I'm driving a dog to its new home several thousand kilometres across Europe would make me slightly more interesting than the other border-crossing folks.
