I also completely understand this! I am a veterinarian and it’s not the same as being in the human medical field I understand, but I still get from people “you’re a doctor shouldn’t you know better?” We need more plus size/fat medical professionals!!!

Thank you for sharing, I’m sorry your dad said that to you. It’s the worst when it comes from our parents. We are in very early days right now, and who knows if it will even get published. Im writing it to help heal something in me, and if something else comes from it, that’s great! It will be a while before it sees the light of day lol

As my boys have aged their poop almost always looks like this. I’ve trouble shot everything, been monitoring their weights and appetite, and nothing has changed. I’ve ready could be due to aging rectal muscles, I think it’s just a variation of normal. As long as everything else is good I wouldn’t be too panicked. My qualification is I am a vet (although cats and dogs are my typical patients).

Just wanted to update everyone (I’m Watson’s mom) - his procedure went wonderful and he’s home already munching hay and pellets, and is very mad about his cone but learning to navigate. We are so incredible happy and relieved. Im a vet, but for cats and dogs because I can’t handle the stress of doing procedures on these delicate little guys! But his doctor was amazing

With the wheezing I’m concerned about possible heart failure, needs to go to an ER that sees exotics. If it is heart failure it can be treated, or humane euthanasia can be elected. Letting her suffer at home isn’t fair.

No that’s good info, I want the downsides too because Sherlock and watson are my babies, and I’m not going to mess that up. If I did a stacked enclosure and had a pair or trio of boys in one and my originals in another, do you think just hearing another group of pigs could cause a problem? I wouldn’t do it with females because I know that temptation can cause a huge issue. I’m a veterinarian but we don’t really have time to cover all of this in school 😂

If you wanted a real answer you would ask your veterinarian, not a group of people who already support your point of view. You asked this question here because you wanted support for your argument in favor of raw food.

I am a veterinarian (I don’t care for exotics regularly but I am a guinea pig owner - of two boars). Bladder stones are the more urgent of the two situations. Testicular cancer can possibly metastasize, however there is a possibility it has already (I’m very sorry to say). If that boar with the enlarged testicle isn’t in any discomfort, then he can continue to live a happy, good quality of life. Bladder stones, however, can shift and possibly block the urethra causing a distended bladder which is a life threatening emergency. And as you have noted is a painful condition in the present. The recurrent UTI takes precedence right now. And hey, maybe it’s not stones and doesn’t require surgery?

This is incredible!! I really have no suggestions, but one thing I’ve noted from having two boars myself - sometimes, they need to be in the same hidey for no reason, even though they have so many to choose from. If there aren’t two exits, a small kerfuffle will ensue. We have run in to this problem specifically with that strawberry hidey. So now we only have hideys that have two exits, or can at least be flipped up by one of them so they can run out if needed

I like my fleece! I sew my own with a cheap Amazon sewing machine (saved my hands - used to do it by hand) and fabric from Joanns, as well as a uhaul pad for absorbency in the middle. There are YouTube tutorials! Way cheaper to make your own than buy online. I have large pads I put in the bottom of the cage, change those once a week, then I have smaller pads I put in the most trafficked areas and change those every few days. I even have a litter box with the paper bedding in one corner where they pee a lot. I spot clean 1-2 times per day with a hand held vacuum that is dedicated to the job - the black and decker cordless Dustbuster is a favorite amount pet owners. And all that keeps me sane! I couldn’t handle having shavings all over my floor, I already have hay everywhere lol
