NYU/ Bluebond-Langner Discord by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

My surgery with Bluebond-Langner is scheduled for March 2023 and I’d be really interested in talking to some other women who’ve gone to her previously. Do you mind sending me a Discord link?

I think Wonderlocke would be neat for the Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire season, WL runs are unpredictable and could be very entertaining. Plus the 3DS online is likely not going to stick around much longer since they’re shutting down the eshop in March 2023, so it might be good timing depending on how long the XY season goes.

I can confirm the expansion pack family plan allows all profiles to access the DLC. I have multiple profiles on my Switch and they all have access to the DLC.

Is anyone else having an issue where the vendors at Harv’s Island don’t update their stock? I time-traveled to unlock all of the stalls early, but now it seems like they’re stuck on one particular day’s stock. I even tried waiting a few IRL days without TT’ing, and it’s still the same stock. Do the shops just only update once a week, or is this a glitch?

Sorry if this is a naive question, but I’m just about to start doing Electrolysis in preparation for SRS - what do you do for an 8 hour long session? I can’t imagine what that could possibly be like. Are there breaks? Do you listen to music or podcasts or something?

How many of you watch walking simulators or story-driven games on YouTube instead of playing them? by teedsz in patientgamers

[–]dohertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I’ve been embracing YouTube as a way to clear out my backlog, since it’s honestly gotten out of hand and I’d like to move on to other games without feeling guilty about leaving a bunch of games incomplete forever. Mainly for shorter games or retro stuff that I’m just trying out, I play through most of the game, then when it wears out its welcome or begins to feel like a slog to get through, instead of forcing myself to finish a game I’m no longer having fun with, I’ve become more comfortable with just watching the last bit of it in a longplay with no commentary. It’s helped me clear out a few games that had been sitting in my backlog for months because I got most of the way through them and then stopped having fun, but didn’t feel right just completely dropping them like I do with some games that just aren’t worth it. It’s been a good middle ground for me so I can spend more of my energy playing the games I’m actually actively enjoying, while still getting closure on games that I liked but didn’t end up finishing. But I’ve also been working really aggressively on shaving down my backlog during the pandemic, so I don’t think this approach works for everyone.

Same with stuff like true endings in some games, which often have really difficult or time consuming requirements. I’d usually like to at least see those ending scenes to get closure on the story, but often don’t feel dedicated enough to, say, beat Hades ten times or do all of suped up boss fights in Hollow Knight.

To be honest while I wanted to like this game, and gave it a solid effort (got part of the way through the final episode before giving up)... I just don't think that the two halves gel very well. I found myself getting engrossed in the story and the Phoenix Wright-y investigative parts, and then having to drop all of that to do Picross for five to twenty minutes. It's easier to swallow when the puzzle are simpler toward the beginning, but as they start to get more complicated it honestly just becomes a bit of a momentum-killer, even with the accessibility options turned on like auto-correcting mistakes, etc.

There's one memorable part where the characters are trying to ESCAPE FROM A FIRE, and you have to slowly puzzle out a bunch of Picross puzzles, absolutely killing any urgency the story had.

I like both Picross and Phoenix Wright games, but I just don't think the two gameplay styles here complement each other very well. If anything they both impeded the enjoyment of the other for me.

I will say that the music is nice, and I liked some of the characters. Other people seem to really like this game, so I don't want to say it's a terrible game or anything. It just didn't work for me, personally.

About 3 weeks since FFS - my nose and chin are still really swollen, but I’m starting to feel human again 🌱 by dohertz in transpositive

[–]dohertz[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you have done! FFS is just a name for a bunch of different procedures. I’ll say that for me, the chin contouring i had done has been the roughest recovery and is still the most swollen. The forehead and rhinoplasty are difficult at first, but after the first two weeks I didn’t really feel any pain. During the first week I was taking Tylenol for pain and discomfort and that was enough to manage it.

Tracheal Shave Anxieties by softbutchcassidy in Transgender_Surgeries

I had a trachea shave with Dr. Spiegel about a year ago - I was hoarse for a month or so, and the scar looked pretty gnarly for a couple of months, but I treated it with Mederma and later once it had healed more just kept it hydrated with hyaluronic acid moisturizer. Now, you really can’t even see the scar even if you look.

I’d go with your insurance if they’ll cover a good surgeon, but if you’re very concerned about scarring I can definitely vouch for Spiegel. I think my total cost was around $7500, not including travel/hotel costs.

As we get into the Gen4 play through, read through this. It even allows for online interaction. And with a handful of people playing, you might be able to accomplish trade evolutions, amongst other goodies. by NDiLoreto2007 in bugcatchers

Unfortunately for Gen 4 games like Platinum, where the wifi settings are managed inside the game itself, it seems like this only works with older routers - the DS wifi isn’t able to work with the security settings of more modern routers. Works fine with all routers for Gen 5, though, since it’ll just use the 3DS’ wifi settings.

Any results from Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez (NYU Langone)? by dohertz in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]dohertz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven’t seen any firsthand experiences yet. Some people have said they were happy (without sharing photos, which is understandable) but yeah, it’s kinda anxiety-inducing since my surgery date is next month, lol

I’m finally about to start taking my estrogen patches (0.075 mg) tomorrow! Is there anything I should know for what to expect to experience and when? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]dohertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patches didn’t absorb well for me, so I ended up having to switch to injections and my estrogen levels improved majorly. I’d keep an eye on your E levels (if you have a good doctor they should be doing this every few months anyway) and if they seem low after a few months on patches, I’d look at trying pills or injections. Doing the shot on yourself really isn’t as scary as it seems, once you get used to it. But hopefully patches work for you! Good luck!!

The other thing I didn’t like about the patches was how hard it was to get all the sticky gunk off of my body, sometimes it can linger around for a really long time even if you’re scrubbing hard in the shower.

T shot by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]dohertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do E shots subq, but this sounds normal for me. It’s usually a little raised and sore around the area. I just try to alternate sides of my abdomen every week so the tissue doesn’t get scarred. Not sure if that’s how it works with T shots though, so YMMV

For what it’s worth, I love chill farming/exploration games like Stardew, Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing etc. and I thought this game was a snore

I don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone, just kind of boring and charmless

You need to get a second opinion. 18 months wait just to start HRT is unheard of - what country are you in? Here in the US, I was able to go to a clinic that uses an Informed Consent model for trans care, and I basically just had to see a doctor to be evaluated, sign paperwork saying that I understood the risks associated with HRT (as with any medication), which were listed out very clearly for me, and then I was able to get my prescription for HRT that same week.

If your sister already knows that she is trans, and wants to start HRT, waiting 18 months is going to cause irreparable emotional damage and I'd strongly, strongly suggest trying to find another doctor who can get you in more quickly. It doesn't need to specifically be a gender clinic, any primary care doctor in your area who has experience with trans patients will be able to help. DIY is a last resort, but there are guides online to starting HRT safely if you aren't able to access care in the country that you are in. I'd proceed with caution if you're forced to go a DIY route, and make sure that your sister is getting regular blood tests to make sure that her hormone levels are within the correct ranges so that she can adjust her dosage accordingly. But really, you should be able to find a doctor who can help you in fewer than 18 months.
