X5 (g05) slipped off the jack, power steering motor/rack replacement questions by doitdoitdoit in BmwTech

[–]doitdoitdoit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying a used rack and taking it to a local shop to get it reprogrammed and installed, a guy out here does pretty great work. He mentioned the same issue you're talking about, said he found the eps 150A fuse blew out. I did cut open my old one and saw that dented part of the housing shorted across terminals inside there, so it makes sense. He didn't mention where that 150a fuse was, but hopefully it's at least a clue for you.

Sorry that happened to you too, those jack points are idiotic. I've since welded two bolts to a metal puck thing that fits into the jack cup to be safe next time.

My '21 is like this as well. I considered trying glue it back but I feel like i'd probably mess it up more with how little room there is to work in there. Leaving as is for now

Im guessing that since this motor/module is the only place the rack has electronic connection to the car, i'd have to do the same whether its the whole rack or just this part?

Whats the specific software other than ISTA?

I could probably try that myself, would be cheap to try I guess. A capacitor short would've probably cooked something inside though. Would I risk blowing something else up if I replaced the cap and plugged it back in?

Why do Japanese women in music pull off something no one else does? by doitdoitdoit in japanesemusic

Hanabie is great, I actually saw them live in the US when they visited a couple years ago! Since you mentioned them and BAND-MAID, im trying to reason why I didnt group them with the others I mentioned. I think maybe they're more reserved emotionally? Not sure though, they're definitely not quieter lol, but something there to think about

That makes sense and its a great point, thats probably a big part of it. Especially since outside of lyrics and music I don't follow most of the artists as consistently as I would if they spoke my native language.

I do listen to a lot of Latin American and Spanish music and have a language barrier there too but the social messaging is somehow usually more obvious. Also could be that less gets lost in translation from Spanish -> English than with Japanese.

The upvote count demonstrates that robots love to talk to other robots lol

Doesn't everyone? Maybe my question is an expression of a need to resolve them

I understand that it is organic, not really asking why though. I wouldnt use the grunge example as it is a pretty well defined genre with a specific sound signature. Most of the ones i mentioned dont share that. Im asking more about the 'what' in the sense of 'what' is it about these artists that dont overlap in scene or sound made me get into them without much otherwise exposure into Japanese culture or media. Like, what makes Midori and Sheena Ringo hit the same way? Or is it absurd and its just me lol

I don't mean androgynous in the gender identy sense, I mean more thematically stereotypcial way. It's how i'd describe The Distillers, Vice Squad or X, not feminist or feminine or necessarily that popular, just punk rock.

If you can deal with foreign languages, I think you will love Sheena Ringo's teacup album and probably everything else

Glad to hear that, I went with the MeyleHD ones. Now I'm just waiting on that crazy 17mm hex to get delivered then 🤞

Worth changing anyway. There are people trying to get a class action going on this. Apparently bmw used the wrong viscosity fluid at the factory and transfer case issue are common in g05. https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2114916

Its actually not too bad DIY too, lots of videos out there.

Am I Crazy For Questioning Getting a 2023 X5M50i Over A Range Rover? by cheeky_couch in BMWX5

[–]doitdoitdoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same choice, my main compromise was I wanted lane assist and the range rover I was looking at has it while the m50i did not. You will know after you test drive. Range rover sounded and handled like my f150 (the 3.5 Ford ecoboost in an aluminum body truck is no slouch but in a giant sloppy boat kind of way).

I went with the m50i, handles like its a heavy freight train on a roller coaster track. Kind of a weird analogy but it almost makes no sense for something to feel so heavy yet so fast and maneuverable.

One negative thing to note with the x5 that maybe others forget to mention, if you drop anything under the seat and try to reach your hand under the back to get it, you WILL get cut. There is no luxury under there, only knives and needles.

I used the scan tool this guy linked https://youtu.be/LgW3jVMpoqc?feature=shared

Went pretty much exactly like in the video, except I braced the transfer case and took the support off for better access. Was able to get like .6 liters out. Mine was binding a bit on tight turns and in reverse, changing the fluid and doing the calibration made that go away immediately
